How do we feel at this point...

about our run d? We haven't seen but a single preseason game, but it didn't look terrible. It has certainly been worse and there are still questions, but, on paper, does it look like it will be better than last year's?

I don't feel like seeing Michael Turner run for 111 on 9 carries again. :ack2:

I personally feel like there will be improvement if only due to the fact that they have had a year under Meeks' system. If Hardy does step up and see a good bit of field time, even contending with Everette Brown for the job, I think he could do the job. Norwood looked sound as well. Not to mention we still have Beason and Connor, who both play the run well. I think we will see improvement this season.

Discuss.

True, but it wasn't every carry. I remember us stopping the inside run a few times. Like I said, I'm not gonna sit here and say "we're going to be a top 10 run d this year" but there will be improvement, IMO. Even if its only a 20 yard per game difference, there will be some. Even the best run d's give up the inside from time to time.

This thread just got derailed and there's no Salty. It doesn't feel right. I guess FotF is the stand in for now. I will just prepare this thread to get moved in the next 8 hours.

If I had a bi twins who were horny for beer and wings, I would personally ask for them to get me beer and wings, while servicing me, while also servicing each other, while also improving the Panthers run d. :D

There we go. Discussed 2 topics at once.

To early to tell.

We need to see a few weeks worth of run defense before making a call on competent or otherwise.

True. I'm just stoked and really expecting a good season. I just have a feeling. It's like we're so close to being the best team under the radar that it's ridiculous.

    • The thing I hate about strength of schedule is that NFL teams change so much over a year and past success or failure doesn't really dictate future success or failure
    • Considering you previously struggled to understand BTT despite it being explained in a video, write-up, and multiple replies, I get why this might be a little too complex for you. Happy to clarify again! Just let me know which part tripped you up this time. 😉
    • And, honestly, there's only so much you can attempt to do in the draft. And every draft pick is a roll of the dice. But that's where grabbing a ton of UDFAs, and targeting the best, makes a big difference. Sure, their individual chances of getting a hit here is less, but that shotgun pattern might just hit something.  Right now, we need bulk, partly to rebuild and partly to dilute the deep level of stank that has developed on this team in the last six years. If we're going to rebuild a culture built around culture, accountability and winning, then these UDFAs we bring in each season have to be the wash water that gets out that leftover dirt.  Canales seems to be a smart, culture-first, build up the good ones kind of guy. I like that and I hope he can keep it going here. But he was working against a locker room that had been taught to lose and taught to distrust or ignore coaches. He's got his work cut out for him, still. He does seem to have it moving in the right direction and that's something I was pretty amazed with by the end of last season.
