Brown not worried about lack of sacks

IMO: I would rather that Brown get 5 or 6 sacks and play well against the run than have him get 10 sacks and not be able to play on first or second down because he can't hold the edge. If he is working on improving his ability against the run it means he isn't going to just rush headlong toward the quarterback if he is in on 1st or 2nd down. It means he may get less sacks but will be more fundamentally sound.

You can do a lot worse than Everette Brown for your 4th DE, if that's how it ends up. He has done nothing but work his ass off since he got here, kid's going to be fine. Sure, he may not put up double-digit sacks this year but I think he has a bright future as a panther and will be at the very least a reliable contributor for years to come. Hardy's immediate impact has made Brown look bad, but it doesn't mean that Brown won't be a top pass-rusher by his third or fourth year.

As Panthers fan we should be really happy with how our DE situation is looking after the Peppers era. Brayton is a rock-solid vet and we have three young guys all teeming with potential. One way or another we're going to end up with a high-caliber DE and a group of above average guys. We won't be missing Pep for very long.

It's pretty funny that there was a thread going around in August whether Brown would have over/under 10 sacks before the season. Now the arguement is whether or not he is a bust or a 3rd stringer.

Brown will be fine. He might not truly breakout until his 3rd season but he is such a hard worker and has such a motor he will be a long time producer for us. I will stand by this draft pick.

I agree with Panther55 its Charles Johnson who needs to have a big year. I didn't like hearing about all that weight he gained in the offseason.

I also remember when Brayton was being criticized and posters where saying that Johnson was way better and that he should replace Brayton as a starter. Funny what 2 sacks in the first quarter of a preseason game can do for everyone's perceptions. I told everyone that Brayton was a half a step on most plays last year from being a 10 sack guy.

I don't know how things will turn out this year but he sure made the blind side (Michael Oher) look like a chump last Thursday.

And I am pretty sure he went inside him and the guard on both of those, I couldnt tell if they attempted to double him or not, but lets give credit to them boys on the inside as well.

He did do very well. He'll have a career year this year. Even if it's only 7 or so sacks. He's been steadily improving since he got here. He wanted to stay here so bad because he's going to be able to be proud of what he has accomplished here.

    • Wow I can’t believe the panthers tried to trade up, failed, but still got the guy they wanted to trade up for. I wonder if anyone else has ever said that next you’ll tell me they had Hunter and Brazzell graded as first rounders.
    • I don’t think people are saying that picking up the option is a call for the pitchforks. We would have had to do things differently a couple of years back to make declining the option a valid move. We didn’t and here we are. People largely accept that. The pattern it adheres to, reinforces the nausea we feel when the idea of an extension, and at top of the market no less, comes up.  One that he hasn’t shown he deserves.   Same as he did not deserve to be drafted 1.1. Look at Pavia and what really is the difference? Bryce is a nice guy and Pavia is an asshole lol. They are both no margin for error non day one talents. One went undrafted.  Probably should have been drafted day three anyway. The other was way over drafted.
    • We hate losing. I don't know Bryce to hate him. His play as a QB, I absolutely hate. It's just not good enough. If there were a lottery held to select the order and all 32 starting QBs could be drafted as the starting QB for whatever team selected them, how long do you think it would be before Bryce's name was called? Top 10, top 20, bottom 8? Think about it.  For me, having never seen back to back games with franchise QB level performance in 3 years tells me what I need to know. We still need to be looking for our solution at QB.
