Did We Improve From Last Week Or Not?

I'd also like to mention that I'd be scared to see what the pass-O would've looked like with 24 (Revis) out there.

Revis will be an overpaid above-average (but not superman-like as they portrayed him last year) CB this year.

With that out of the way... I agree that Jarrett is looking better. Well, at least he is gaining yards, right?

From my view in the stands he still ran routes gingerly and didn't get all that much seperation. Once again his hands are outstanding.

I think if he gets more time out on the field he will be able to get more separation and get better with his routes in the games. Don't ask me why I have these crazy views.

The defense is getting better. Beason's getting more comfortable, and when Connor was in he looked great. Brown looked good too, even against the run. The DTs were solid.

Special teams have not improved, and neither has the offense. That's a bad thing, because both units just plainnlook bad. And that looks like a coaching issue as much as anything.

I'm hoping that against the Titans we actually call plays designed to score rather than to see how differerent players look out there. Davidson needs to get into regular season shape too...

Defensively, we are awesome. Pretty much the only thing that needs to happen for us to have a good D is for the front 4 to be able to get pressure on the QB by themselves.

They have proved that they can do that the last 2 games.

The O will get better when SS comes back. As far as pass protection goes, 2 of those sacks on MOore where as much on him as the OL. The Jets sent 8 both times, Moore needs to recognize that and get rid of the ball quick.

PR looked pretty good once Muscle Face started returning the punts. Edwards is a mess.

I agree with most everyone on here. Defense played phenomenal. Without the turnovers, they could have had a shutout. Offense looked terrible, however Goodson and DWill ran the ball well. True, the offensive line didn't look great against those blitzes, but they don't game plan for those in preseason. Obviously special teams played about as bad as possible. Definitely will be looking for them to approve next game.

I've been blown away by just how sharp the young guns on the D look so far, and Beason is a mad man (as usual). But it's been very troubling to me to see what was supposedly our strength going into this season (the offense) look pretty inept. And special teams has looked like an episode of Benny Hill so far. I watched their performance last night, and in my head I kept hearing the theme music from that show. Granted, all the qualifiers apply here: no game planning, no Smitty/Otah/Stewart, etc. But still, the performances from the offense and ST seem really, really, REALLY bad to me. That's scary for what it portends for the regular season.

The offense struggles I think because we develop no chemistry. Receivers get shuttled in and out which gives the guys no "go to guy". I can't believe I am saying it but honestly if Jarrett had played more I think he would have done fine and we would have moved the ball. He looked very good tonight. LaFell and Moore didn't really. After that first catch by Moore, he didn't do much else.

It seems to me that Jarrett has finally instilled confidence in the coaching staff, thus having other guys like Wallace Wright and LaFell in there to get looks instead of D.J. If I had to guess right now the coaching staff has already penciled in Jarrett as the #2 guy barring some miracle trade that wont happen.....

I thought defense looked great and offense not so great. Not really worried because we are not playing our typical offense. We are throwing the ball a lot more trying to get Moore and the receivers in synch. Once the season starts we will go back to what we do - ground and pound.

Special teams is a major concern. I know it is preseason but we need major improvement.

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
