Say Jake IS done...

Jake is under contract until the end of next season... I think it will be a telling sign of his status if he gets extended before the draft.

If he does, I think we'll see the status quo.. We'll hang onto McCown and Moore, and look at the waiver wire/FA market.

If he does not, you could very well see the Panthers using their first pick in the draft on a QB... I don't think that is an option under a Fox/Hurney led team, so common sense would lead you to believe that Jake re-signs, it saves us a ton of cap space, and he is our QB until Fox/Hurney are gone or an obvious replacement is available....

I'll defend Jake with the best of them. But to say he isn't overpaid. I can't do that.

3 playoff appearences in 5 season that he has been healthy enough to play.

2 other seasons we were still in it to the last game.

So he has had us in playoff conention ever year that he has started.

I remember what it was like BEFORE jake.

I will take this now.

What is your solution?

My bet is that there isn't one that wouldn't have the same people complaining about him complaining about said solution...

Kerry Collins? Michael Vick? a Rookie? Are you friggin' kidding me?!?!?

Until there is a clear cut better option, we have to stick to our guns.

Check out the play of the other QBs in the NFL this year and you'll see Jake was below average in almost every way. He was outplayed by players on far less talented teams even though he was asked to throw fewer passes than any other QB that started the entire season. His completion % sucked, his interception rate sucked, his td/int ratio sucked. We'll never know if someone else could do better unless we give them a shot, just like we did with Delhomme 5 years ago. If this season is what we can expect from Delhomme, (sub 60% completion, near 1/1 TD/INT ratio, 3% INT rate), I'm all for giving someone else a shot.

Fox/Hurney will draft the best available player. If you want Jake gone THAT badly, hope that Fox/Hurney have a few QBs rated pretty high and they are still available when our turn comes up.

Then you'll wait a year or two.....

Until then, they will keep signing undrafted free agents to the practice squad till they find someone who has leadership qualities.

Then you'll wait another year or two....

(Assuming Jake doesn't get hurt)

the size of his game check is irrelevant when he HIMSELF accounts for 6 TO's in a home playoff game.

I don't think we are looking for a solution at this point. I think we are (or should be) more focused on getting rid of a problem. Hanging on to Joke based on the fact that Tom Brady wasn't gonna beat down our door for vet minimum hasn't worked out in the past and isn't looking any better now.

CHANGE your way of thinking.

Try not taking it so personal for a change. You don't owe him anything. Where does all this "I'll defend..." BS come from? He could care less if you "defend" him or not.

Change your question to "Say Jake retires..."

think of it like that and maybe some of the clouds will part

until this season, playoff "contention" in the NFCSouth was not hard to muster. It's called "backing in" and when you come short of "backing in" it's not an accomplishment. He played great in 2003. Played a great 2nd half in the superbowl and has only shown flashes of that ability since. Just enough to keep everybody on his jock.

You use numbers in an even fancier way than John Fox does.

Maybe you should realize that I don't care if Jake is gone or not...

I have even called for his head myself a long long time ago, but we chose to stick with him, and he is the starting QB for the Carolina Panthers... That is not my choice, but something I have to live with...

I just don't see a viable option other than Jake at this point, and instead of offer one, you continue to avoid the issue...

If Jake is gone and we have an 0-16 season (not saying that it's likely), who are you going to want gone then? Smitty? Smitty himself wants Jake here... Are you saying Smitty is a part of the problem too?

    • He's a hard player to rank, cause he is a young NT. I do see his abilities to branch out among the DL. That's the only way for him to land in the 1st, some team has to believe he's got the stuff to play DE or T3.... I just don't see using 19 on him, I feel there should be around 7 players just ranked higher than him for the Panthers team.  ___________________________________________________________________   Now you are a roster nut like me. Im tossing this into fire, I think a good move is to trade UP, yes rare. Just the roster #s tell me 5 rookies and no more than 2 starters will make the team. I feel 5 is magic number.    QB- 2  BY, Pickett RB- 3   Chubba, Brooks(pls), etienne TE- 4   Sanders, Temble, Evans, Draft pick/major/franks/UDFA OL- 10   Walker, Lewis, Fortner, Hunt, Motown, Zavailla, Samac, Stone, Draft pick, Draft pick/Charles/carter WR-  6   Tmac, XL, Coker, Metch, Horn, Tremay   offense=  25 with 3 draft picks   DL-  6   Brown, Brown, Wharton, Ray, Cam, Hunter/draft pick Ed-   5  Phillips, Nic, Prince, Jones, ST/incoom/hampton ILB-   5  Lloyd, Wallace, Bam, Claud, draft pick CB-    5 Horn, Jackson, Thor, Evans, draft pick/CSN/UDFA SS-  4  Scott, More, Ramsom, Sim   Defense = 25 with 3 picks   ST = known 3+o+d = 53 roster   SO I see only room for 5-6 with factoring in UDFA pool. That tells me to trade up! Bonus the 1st+3rd gets in front of TB yucs. Then use one of the 5ths+2nd to draft another target. That's your two starters and use the 4th, 5th and 6th for the development OTs and what ever the best player are at the pick/DB. The last couple years they have added 2-3 UDFA each year, maybe the same this year too. Soooooooo Im normally 95% trade back, but above made me change my mind. I do not want to waive 5th rounder, I feel thats high with players on the bench.    ??
