from marty hurney's interview wit steve reed (on twitter @carolinagrowl )

Hurney on DTs: We felt like it was one of the toughest positions. We felt our competition there was very good.

Hurney: The guy who really surprised us was Andre Neblett. Every time he was in there he made something happen.

Hurney on QBs: Tony Pike has an excellent feel for pressure and the ability to escape in the pocket. We feel like he has tools.

Duke Robinson has a torn MCL, Hurney said.

C.J. Davis has a concussion, went on IR, not cut.

Hurney: We kept six receivers and three were drafted. Kenny Moore had a good spring and summer and improved. He did everything we asked.

We had a lot of difficult decisions at a lot of different positions.

Hurney on Jarrett: The thing we wanted to see is Dwayne was the consistency and he's showed that.

Hurney: We feel good about our young WRs

Hurney: Cuts were not budget driven.

Only kept four corners.

Hurney carries flag and claims choices were not budget driven.

Hurney on cutting Kenny Moore: he had good spring, summer...but #Panthers would rather give younger guys a chance.

Hurney adds Pike has tools that will allow him to play in the league and can be developed.

Marty Hurney Tony Pike showed the other night things they were impressed by when he was in college.

Hurney says Dwayne Jarrett has done everything #Panthers have asked of him. He's showing consistency now.

Hurney claims people he's talked to in #Panthers fan base are excited about youth and energy.

I wonder where his consistency goes when Jarrets on the field??
i don't know.

i'm hoping (for lack of a better option at the moment) that with smith back on the field, matt gets his rhythm back and the other WRs settle into more of a positive groove because of smith being out there.

i'm still hoping that we bring someone else in but from the language hurney was using (and the fact that he was on the phone with reporters instead of with agents) lets me believe that they are sticking with that WR corps for better or for worse.

also, from past interviews and reports, they are loving that most of the team is made up of their own draft picks. moore wasn't one of them. i think they are out to show that they know what they're doing when they draft and trying to prove a point about being able to build through the draft. you look at the acquisitions from the offseason and for the most part the ones that were cut were all FAs. there was only one draft pick that was cut from this year.
