Charles Godfrey

You guys must be joking. The entire f*cking secondary looked like horse sh*t today and you're lynching Godfrey? How about Gamble, who is supposed to be one of the better corners in the league getting abused and looking like a cheerleader trying to make tackles? Marshall and Munnerlyn were also awful. Lack of pass rush also goes a long way towards making the secondary look shitty. Godfrey gave up some balls and missed some tackles but he also had two picks and some great tackles. Take the good with the bad.

Exactly dude, people on this site overreact so bad. Hell yeah I was throwing stuff and ill at the play calling. Our O lines inability to block. Gamble whiffing on tackle after tackle. Marshall looking lost. Matt Moore pulling a Delhomme. But its one game. Godfrey shouldn't be singled out. He had two REALLY bad plays and some good ones.

Godfrey did have some really nice tackles and made some plays but sometimes he just doesn't have a clue and is really inconsistant.

He sucks at over the top coverage and needs to learn how to asses the play. On the Bradshaw play he appeared to have no clue it was a run and instead of running at Bradshaw he just locked his legs and stood there.

He needs better intution and to spend some godamn time in a film room.

Fair enough, I agree in saying that Godfrey is way overrated. Just a question but was Godfrey the SS or the FS today. I thought Martin, despite making less plays had a better day. Its usually a bad sign if a corner or safety is making a lot of tackles haha.

Depth chart would tell you that Godfrey is the strong safety and Martin is the free safety, but the scheme sometimes has them switch roles.

(I really wish they wouldn't)

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
