Fox doesn’t see need to scale back playbook for Clausen

They need to scale back the offense anyway or trade Jonathan Stewart for a WR. His playtime last week was pathetic considering he's our 3rd best offensive weapon.

And we only have 3 offensive weapons.

We have far more than three weapons. Unfortunately, our offensive coordinator (or head coach) doesn't know how to effectively use them all.

Jimmy, this is the deep ball to Smith, the hand-off to our running backs, and this little play is something we like to call the "draw play." Use it every 3rd down and long.

Now get out there!

Oh... yeah, they also have this for 3rd and long:

Maybe that's the part Fox would scale back?

Lmao, this is a great thread.

people are talking about fox's usual predictability but what in the world did they do this past week that was predictable?

this is a run first team...probably the strongest in the NFL. why didn't we do that? in the red zone where it made more sense for us to run the ball, why didn't we? isn't that when we usually do it?

i think they are really trying to open up the playbook. it just isn't working. they don't have the personnel for it. i'm thinking this past week was just an experiment.the whole season is going to be. they want to see who will bethe QB and WRs they can rely on in the future. screw the record. just figure out who can play.

i wouldn't be a bit surprised if they switch clausen to the starting job at some point just to see how he can do it.

i was feeling good about the season but the more i think about it, he more i think that this is all abouttryong to see who they can build the team around when FA starts again after the new CBA deal is struck.

sucks for PSL owners. hopefully its good for the long haul.

    • Kind of a secondary issue. They need to figure out how to get more out of the run game or nothing else is going to open up either. That means dealing with a stacked box.  Might as well just send XL deep to try and take a defender partially with him. It's probably the best use of XL at this point.  Doesn't matter because they probably see themselves at .500 as not too bad and after Atlanta it should look more like the Bills game. I would bet on more of the same for a few more weeks. 'Just got to figure out how to get ridiculous games out of Rico' is probably on a whiteboard as we discuss.
    • I mean, I think Legette is probably a bust also, and that's after trying to defend and rationalize about him, but I'm not gonna use that play. He did stock his hand out there, but the ball was just too off target. That being said, I've never seen a guy who is supposed to have the potential of a star just disappear in games like he has. There are UDFAs that do more than he has with the number of snaps he's gotten. His only saving grace is that he plays in a largely inept passing offense, so there still may be a sliver of hope that the offense is so disjointed  that maybe it's to difficult for him too succeed. That's probably wishful thinking though. We need a higher pick at receiver for the third draft in a row. Honestly, with needing a QB, a WR, a defensive back or two, a linebacker, and whatever else, who knows when we'll actually be viably competitive. And to think, people were trying to get after me a few weeks ago when I basically said that we drafted the wrong guy(s). Hopefully Dan has learned some huge lessons about drafting the past couple of years. As the merry-go-round spins...
