Interesting Little Blurb

Cincinnati Bengals at Carolina Panthers

How bad has the Panthers' offense been? Through two games, Carolina has amassed an Offensive Passing DVOA of -78.7%, which means that Carolina's quarterbacks and receivers have produced at an opponent-adjusted rate of almost 80 percent below league average. Before he was benched in favor of rookie Jimmy Clausen, quarterback Matt Moore had the league's worst DVOA among quarterbacks with at least 15 passing attempts through the first two games of the season. He managed two fumbles, four interceptions, and a 40.8% catch rate in 58 passes. Clausen probably won't be much better in an offense that has managed to be opponent-indifferent -- it almost doesn't matter who they're facing at this point.

It should surprise no one that Moore and the Panthers' offense is dead last, but 80% worse than league average?

Ugh.

If they weren't starting Jimmy this Sunday, I doubt more than 10,000 people would show up (and I'm pretty sure they knew that).

if i could i would go to ever game. But since i live near the beach, and money is alittle tight i cant. I would support my team regardless of how bad they are.

you know, when a team has a dip here and there I get that...

and this doesn't really pertain to the Panthers, yet...

but examples like Lions and Raiders (before this year, since they appear to be trying).. I don't know if that is such a good thing...

Fans do hold a little power.. if they show up even when the team is consistently losing year in and year out, there is nothing to say an owner won't just sit back and not be aggressive in doing whatever it takes to put a winning team on the field..

there is a romanticism about "being a real fan" and "showing up rain, shine, or sorry as fug".. I'm really questioning that logic...

There is...I believe in doing so for say my college team. But when it comes to professional sports I fully believe in sending a message to ownership as a fan. Carolina won't get a dime from this fan until they show they are serious about winning. Telling your coach to find a job and he can get out of his contract......or stay one last year and go through the motions of a season specically geared as prep for a lockout that may or may not come (one our particular owner will likely be in favor of) means we shouldn't pump money into Carolina.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
