A look at what's wrong with our Panthers

We're lacking in a few positions, and our scheme simply doesn't work well with missing pieces. What's wrong, and why did we fail to address our deficiencies in FA?

Jerry Richardson created a budget that didn't allow for bringing in new valuable FAs.

What's missing from this team? What would we have done if Jerry didn't create the tight budget?

1.) Buy a proven FA WR to replace the loss of Moose. It's foolish to draft any WR in the hopes of starting him as a #2 right away.

2.) Buy an elite pass rushing DT, similar to a young Kris Jenkins. Without a push up the middle, QBs will simply step up into the pocket to avoid any pressure from the DEs. That can't happen in zone defense if you want to win.

3.) Either pay Peppers what he wants, or bring in a proven FA pass rushing DE. The outside rush has to compliment the inside rush, creating a vice to crush the QB. No QB in the NFL would feel comfortable in that type of pocket.

4.) Replace Harris with another veteran SS who loves to absolutely destroy WRs after the catch. Fear will creep into the mind of a WR who hears a big hitters footsteps coming. In addition, the opposing RB will also think twice about getting nailed repeatedly over the course of the game.

Fill these 4 positions via FA, and you'll have a team that can rival any other team in the NFL. Each postion that is filled by an unproven rookie, a has been, a never was, will add a degree of suck to this team. We are lacking in 4 postions, and Jerry doesn't care. When the owner doesn't care, it trickles down to the coaches and the players.

    • well i could go on & on but i will just highlight it by saying big difference trust me from the SEC & NFL.it's honestly like comparing apples & oranges especially when you are talking about a  LT. in the NFL you are going up against the most athletic freaks of nature the world has to offer . .the NFL also has much more exotic & complicated defensive schemes than what they are used to seeing at Georgis &  finally but most importantly you have to learn how to master complex bio mechanics where the body kick steps instantly as a reaction to these world class athletes rush without really making a conscious effort it's more of a learned muscle memory  & it can take thousands upon thousands of reps to master rproper technique for a LT in the NFL especially if you are still very raw like Monroe Freeling is    ...just saying
    • All that being the case or maybe being the case, we do not know Wharton’s timetable n the first place. They are being coy about it. Or maybe not. They say week to week the board says he is terminal lol and must be replaced. Who knows? It may or may not warrant a fairly drastic solution.  Walker is a bargain and we are not well stocked at OL despite recent investments. Freeling has yet to have a single padded practice. Too much speculation driving this plan IMO.
    • I would really love to know who’s actually making these moves because it’s weirdly vague who’s doing the hiring and firing.
