rookie development .. wrong players or wrong coaches?

I agree.. but how can he develop when he's not active??

I totally disagree with how rookie's are developed in our system..!!

Because you only get 43 spots on game day. Gettis has emerged as a better WR threat then Edwards so he gets the start over him. If we activate him we would have to put a ST person or a Defensive player on the inactive list. Really can you say Edwards deserves that spot more then any guy on that field?

I want to see him get a shot but I'm willing to wait. I'd rather see him get the nod over Jarrett at this point though.

you actually get 45... but eitherway... we only know of Edwards by what we are hearing from practice...

we could find a spot...

i don't disagree with you here... i'm just frustrated with our ability to develop players that actually need help learning to how to adjust...

and we have to trust our "coaching staff" that they're doing the job.. See Jarrett

It's a little of both you gotta have the will and drive to WANT to get better as a player. The coaching has to guide these young guys as well let them play and get experience. They both go hand and hand I think it's a mixture of both of those things.

First.. let me say I'm not a Fox "hater" ... but I often question some of his play-calling (we all know he controls both sides of the ball)..

But more importantly.. I can't help but wonder how some of the rookies that are considered a "bust" ... such as Jarrett and so far A. Edwards would develop their skills in a different system.. (not all rookies .. these are an exception)

Has Jarrett had a chance to prove himself? When will A Edwards get a chance to get a "feel" for the game..?? I'm not saying to surround your offense around them... but maybe a few end-around's to Armanti? or a few short passes just to see what he can do.. maybe a wildcat here and there..

Is it the inability of the players ...?? or is it the inability of our coaching staff to develop these talents..??

It sounds like not learning the playbook is an excuse ... if you have a player that could benefit your organization .. hire someone to teach them .. make it a top priority .. We only have 3 plays!! It can't be that difficult!

I have a feeling Jarrett will go to another team if we let him go.. and be a decent receiver... not an all-pro receiver... but he's a big, physical receiver that would be the perfect "short-yardage" type receiver...

just my opinion...

I don't know about that.... Seems like this is the same thing that was said about Colbert and others and they did little after leaving Carolina. If you look at past draft the % of WR that actually develop into decent players are small. I think it is just a hard position to become effective in the NFL unless you're on Peyton Manning's team.

He is learning through the week in practice. Route running catching the ball and blocking. Once he ready he will be active.

ha ha.. okay

you play rookies when they have the fundamentals at their position down. every team does this. edwards doesn't and he won't for at least this year.

he idea that they won't play him when he's ready is pretty silly...esp. when we are looking at a new coaching staff next year.

anyone thinking that edwards would be ready this year isn't thinking realistically. he could play this year but chances are he won't and if he does i wouldn't expect much.

so you're saying he'll develop his skills better in practice..?? na.. he should be active or we should have drafted someone else in his spot... imo

we should find a creative way to use him...

    • Having trouble finding all these articles saying the Raiders withheld information. Here’s the latest from Crosby’s surgeon: ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning that Crosby was "doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program." "We truly respect the work of the Ravens' staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process," ElAttrache said. "This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear."     So the Ravens excuse is the future risk assessment based on the physical, not that the Raiders withheld information. They found an excuse to save face publicly. They had the right to cancel the trade for no reason at all, but they’re trying to save face with the most acceptable reasoning they can find. I’ve heard and seen the Ravens getting dragged everywhere for this. You know what would be an easy way to put a stop to that if you’re the Ravens and the Raiders were actually the shady ones withholding information? Just come out and say that you were not given all the medical information. But they aren’t saying that. I guess they’re just taking the bullet for the Raiders just because?    Speculation indeed.
    • Two first round picks for a guy with very questionable knees who will be 29 this summer. Yes it is safe to say the Ravens got cold feet.
    • The salary cap is the reason we got Phillips and Lloyd
