Why can't our receivers get separation?

Bad play calling or lack of ability to get away from defenders?

2nd question - why can't we call a run play or screen to the outside? We only had one designed screen against NO and it was a 13 yard gain. The other time we DWill took it to the house. Granted that wasn't a designed cut back, but with the whole D in the middle why can't we recognize this?

3rd question - our offense is bad at this point, why are we not calling any gimic plays, ie. reverse pass, etc.?

Lack of ability and play calling. It's a lot harder to get open on a 2 WR set than on a 4-5 WR set. With more WRs, you increase the chance of DBs getting confused and getting out of place.

This, and not just WRs. It's not coincidence that Stewart scored on that play. Confuse the hell out of defenses with a half dozen potential receivers!

of course, that's not how this team is built, and we rarely have enough time for the QB to progress through that many reads.

What gives ... most D's are putting 8 in the box. With 2 receivers and a tight end someone should be able to get open. Also, how many times did we run play action pass last weekend ... once maybe?

Our passing tree has like 4 branches... That is why...

If you can zone cover an out, a curl, a slant, or a fade, then you can beat the Panthers passing attack (or lack thereof)...

This is what happens when you are a running team in a passing league... The box gets stacked and you are shut down (especially if you have a high school style game plan)...

Davidson has to go, along with Fox, and Hurney will go with him...

Bring in Weis or someone who knows how to run an offense, keep Meeks and Baker on the defensive side of the ball, and wipe the board with the scouting department and start fresh there... Boom, you just fixed the Panthers' front office woes...

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
    • When we didn't trade him to the Rams or the Bears (I believe the Bears said they would take one of Brown/ Burns/DJ Moore) we should have just signed him and kept him.  We should have traded him to the Rams obviously and we should have kept DJ and traded Burns.  We made all three wrong choices with Burns lol.
