Check Down

Who is the smarter QB, Cutler or Clausen? Clausen will check down when he doesn't see anything, Cutler tries to stretch the field every play and won't check down and thats why he has an concussion. He won't throw a 3 yard pass for his life! I hope and pray Cutler gets the start, our defense is better than the Giant's, and I think we will pick him off at least 3 times if he starts!

As someone mentioned Clausen checks down in part because he's a rook but also in the abscence of short passing plays thanks to crappy playcalling. This team has not reached the point of vertical passing that requires 6 seconds for routes to develop. They should be throwing screens, jet slants, quick outs, stop passes, and play action.

Again, if anyone with Sunday ticket watches the Rams... they do this all day long. The key is to get the ball in the hands of playmakers as fast as possible.

For many years I've had a long standing disgust for the Broncos. I watched with glee as they blew playoff game after playoff game, then finally blew chances to get to the playoffs all-together.

Thanks in large part to Cutler. He is a terrible QB. Trading Orton for Cutler was not an upgrade for the Bears.

That being said, I don't have that much faith in Clausen, a rookie, right now. But I'm excited to see how he develops. He has some good looks on the ball from time to time and could probably mature into a good player, but he's running an uphill race right now. He's doesn't look ready.

I'd suspect this will be a very low scoring game.

P.S. You said our defense is better than the "Giants"?

Uh... they spanked us, and scored the most points on us so far.

Yes sir, but our QB gave up 18 points to them by throwing 3 picks at their goal line. Oh, Gamble had a bad wheel that game too

why are you bashing someone who's only been in the league for 4 games? And then your comparing him to someone who has been in the league for 4 yrs.

Cause Clausen actually looks like a 4 year guy and Cutler looks like the same Cutler. I know Denver is real happy, trust me, I'm from there and my family still lives there. We thought McDaniels was stupid, I guess he is pretty smart for his age!

Okay...

NFL.com stats disagrees with you.

Giants are #3. We're #18.

No, our defense is not better than the Giants.

You didn't watch that game? You didn't see Moore throw those picks?

    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
    • Freeling got some reps at RT when they gave Moton a rest day--I sorta hope Freeling gets brought along slowly as you describe.  It would be better for him for reasons you provide.  We have a really good problem.
