Matt Moore = "It's a big deal man". A leader and another reason to thank him...

On the importance of the win just after he said he hugged John Fox like 6 times. And you wanna know what else is a big deal? How long has it been since there was a meaningful post-game interview?

Ok, let me rephrase that, has this actually ever happened?

No cliche phrases. No generic team talk. No ambiguous answers. No question dodging. He goes into detail about everything, and for once, the post-game interview actually REALLY offers insight into the team. Crazy, I know!

And as far as Matt goes, he's very confident, and looks to fit the role. He pays a lot of credit to David Gettis and the rest of the team and takes very little credit for himself. He doesn't stumble, and makes me believe. The guy has a lot of heart, which is what I always believed was one of the most important attributes of a leader, and you can tell Matt's heart is all in this. But that's just me. I'm biased and like him quite a bit.

unless he finishes the season extremely strong I'm going to be skeptical of him. I wanted him to find his 2009 mojo and he did. I hope he keeps it. He still overthrows guys too much, if that problem gets better I will feel more confident knowing that he still has some upside to explore.

It's just scary how he has some sort of switch where he goes from a strength to an extreme liability. It seems like it's a mental thing which again is scary. It's something that in the end only he can fix.

arrr this thread already got one starred, hehehe, wtf. Yeah I'd like to see a 100% fearless Matt Moore, Im not sure you can play QB any other way. Maybe that was the hit to make him "immune". You never know, but a lot of guys talk about it. You get blasted and its the worst pain youve ever felt in your life . . so you know its never gonna be worse than that, unless you try to zip your pants up too quickly after taking a squirt.

I have to agree on his poise and confidence. There were 5-6 plays where he remained in the pocket and would find a wide open receiver.

Seeing that poise got me excited but the thing that really gave me faith, the point when i really thought he was gonna pull it out was sometime after his late hit. I remember on one play, he was in the gun and they way he jumped up to the line to point out the defense. I thought to myself "damn, matt is feelin it, he's fearless and ready to go." He just seemed to have a certain "swagger" to him.

To me, seeing him like that and seeing him get excited and run down the field after the bombs to gettis and lafell showed me what i loved about jake and smitty. Their fire and passion for the game is second to none. Matt showed that passion yesterday and.has me ready for the rest or the season.

ryan fitzpatrick's numbers against the ravens....

43 attempts

29 completions

67.4 comp. %

374 yards

4 TDs

2 INTs

106.2 QB rating

moore's numbers

41 attempts

28 completions

68.3 comp. %

308 yards

2 TDs

1 INTs

96.4 QB rating

a couple things from that... you switch opponents for the bills and panthers and 49ers get blown out in a big way. panthers would still be winless. moore may not have had much to work with but have you seen that bills roster? lol. moore looked ok but so did fitzpatrick (in fact i'd go so far to say that in spite of the W/L category, fitzpatrick did a better job considering who he was up against).

also, it's one game out of how many (including preseason) this season that moore hasn't looked like crap? he's going to have to do a whole lot more to win people over to his bandwagon. i don't care what he's done in the apst anymore than i cared what jake had done in the past. it's all about what are you doing now consistently that matters. so far the only consistent thing that moore or clausen has done this year is look bad. until moore shows otherwise, yesterday was a fluke.

btw...if you think i am only saying this because i'm pissed that it wasn't clausen that looked good? i'm pissed that neither QB has looked good consistently and frankly i'd be totally fine with getting rid of both of them next year and finding someone that we don't have blind homers having to make excuses for.

it's moore's own fault that he was ever doubted and it's up to him to change people's perception of him and i seriously doubt that one game this year is going to do much of that.

Sorry guys...

I wish good things for Matt Moore and the Panthers. For now he is the clear starter after that performance, zero QB controversy.

But long term, he's still Derrick Andersen. A quarterback born to be a great backup that wins when expectations are low. Andersen came in for Max Hall yesterday and looked great... yet totally inconsistent as a starter.

Too early for all this talk.

it's also too early for talk that he's the answer. it's one game this season.

You are correct with that qualifier at the end. No need to get in a debate over it. It's just nice to see some good QB play this year, just be happy :)

Also, people are saying he could be this or that, not that he IS that. He showed good things, he's also shown bad things, so we are all just guessing.

Saying he is Derek Anderson or Brady or Manning or Cutler is dumb. He is Matt Moore.

He is Derek Anderson. Not literally, just performance wise until proven otherwise. If you want me to call a spade a spade Jimmy Clausen is Max Hall until proven otherwise.

I'm not trying to critisize Moore, just repsonding when these fanatical Matt Moore disciple posts keep showing up. That's what threads are for after all.

the thing is, people were saying that clausen could be good but it was always met with moore homers and clausen haters as being anti-moore or clausen nuthugging. the dissing of moore was based on his performance this year (which he very much deserved).

am i happy we had a decent passing game yesterday? yep. sure beat what we've been seeing for a long time. however...it's just one game and until i see more of the same i'm not a believer.

the reason that moore homers get such a bad wrap is 1) they are obsessed with moore, not the team, 2) are too similar to twilight fans fighting over whose team they are on (thankfully i blocked out enough of the movies that my wife made me go see that i can't remember the names of the meatheads in it), 3) they just start too many threads saying the same thing...."moore is the GREATEST!" or "Clausen is teh SUCK!"

Moore is nothing like DA. Compare stats not just your impression that they can not win meaningful games. Moore has won them, only two games were meaningless. This season is far from meaningless.

Also, Clausen is in no way Max Hall. Max Hall has an NFL win. Try again.

    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
    • There's a reason Greg Maddux was never a flamethrower but still one of the most feared pitchers of all time, because accuracy beats velocity far more often then vice versa. Once you exceed a certain minimum capability, you can thrive with extreme traits elsewhere, its not strictly about power in any sport but powerlifting.
