man those two would kill each other. literally.

also, god, stop with the whole "HE WONT SPEND A DIIIMMEE!!!" he has spent money in the past, he will again. No excuse for this shitty season but come on...

When was the last time we signed a big time free agent? I remember one year, we wasted a ton of money on Sean Gilbert and Doug Evans who both sucked. If anything, it must have scared ownership because I remember us being cheap since then and having to get excited when we'd signed washed up talent like Keyshawn Johnson or overrated talent like David Carr. I don't remember big time free agents even visiting us recently.

I know Jerry spend money in the past. Sure. BUT it's been awhile.

We went after some receiver from Seattle who bottomed out. We also went after Ken Lucas. We got Chris Harris. The FO has a history of going out and getting good players when it thinks they're worth the price. I just don't see him as cheap. You can argue the talent evaluation is poor and therefore we don't jump when we should, but I think we have had some great FA signings over the years, that while they may not have cost a ton, show he isn't exactly trying JUST to be cheap... he just sees no reason in spending money without a good reason.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
