Clausen actually looked like a pro QB today

top dawg

EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES continue for Clausen week after week. Sure he looked better this week. How in God's green earth could he look worse than last Sunday.

How many EXCUSES can people come up for with Clausen. He sux. He really, really sux. No amount of time is going to change that. If you believe he is magically going to become an NFL average QB, then you must live in some Wizard World.

you haven't been a fan of the nfl very long have you?

As I've said before, I pull for whatever guy is in there, and despite the poor OL play, I lost confidence in Clausen the more I saw of him.

He looked better today, and if he shows he can be a winning QB in the NFL before the end of the season, or at least play like one (can't put Ws and Ls on him alone), then it would make things a lot easier for us going into next year.

Honestly though, I still haven't seen anything to suggest he'll be that guy. He made a few nice throws today, but he's still missing so many things that guys like Bradford or McCoy catch.

I've said so many times that Clausen doesn't let plays develop and looks to checkdown too quickly. By doing so, he's given up so many potential big plays. For example, in the 3rd Qtr today, the checkdown to Rosario that was incomplete on 3rd down. If he would've waited another tenth of a second, Smitty was wide open in the corner of the endzone.

And then again, on the last drive, Clowney waved like crazy to Clausen to hike the ball and hit him with it, as the DB had backed off of him... It most likely would've been another TD.

Starting NFL QBs make these reads and the right throw. Clausen doesn't, or hasn't yet. He made some better decisions, but he's still too quick to give up on a play and throw it away or checkdown. His completion % is still ridiculously low and he just isn't very impressive to this point.

he still checks down too early for my liking, and yes the o-line is less than stellar this year, but there were plenty of plays where he had plenty of time but just got scared and dumped it off too early. he did look better today than he did in past games, but he is still getting waaaaaaay too many passes tipped at the line, and he scrambles way too much at unnecessary times.

Fwiw, I kind of got the impression that was by design. It seemed the coaches were going with more of a short passing game, like St Louis did against us. And if so, I thought it was a smart move. They did open it up a little more in the second half.
