Where do we rank?

Pejorative Miscreant

Recommended Posts

Worst teams in recent NFL (not in any particular order)

1. Last years Rams (1-15) Most recent very bad team

2. 2008 Lions (0-16) Ranks worst based on wins but probably not the worst ever

3. 2001 Panthers (1-15) Nice outing by George.

4. 2007 Dolphins (1-15) Saban cut and run

5. 2006 Raiders (2-14) Dysfunctional team. Probably worse than the '08 Lions

6. 1996 Jets (1-15) Terrible

7. 1980 Aints (1-15) Manning had a pretty good year but that is all.

8. 1990 Pats (1-15) 1 win by 2 points

9. 1991 Colts (1-15) Very Bad

10 1992 Seahawks (2-14) Averaged less than 9 points a game

1976 Bucs only played 14 games so I left them off the list. As much as I hate Dallas I gave the 1989 Cowgirls a pardon because it was the beginning of the Dynasty.

That said I think the Panthers have a chance of breaking into this "elite" territory.

don't really give a shi*t concerning where we rank on the failure tree. Just want to get past this and enjoy better days.

ps.....since you gave the cowpukes a pass ....what's to say we aren't at the beginning of a great run right now?

So are you in the "don't give a sh*t" category or "we might be in the beginning of a great run" category?

Let's have a look-see at some statistics:

Right now we are averaging 4.1 yards per play on offense. To compare:

1. 2009 Rams - 4.5 ypp

2. 2008 Lions - 4.7 ypp

3. 2001 Panthers - 4.4 ypp

4. 2007 Dolphins 4.7 ypp

5. 2006 Raiders 4.2 ypp

6. 1996 Jets 4.8 ypp

7. 1980 Aints 5.2 ypp

8. 1990 Pats 4.4 ypp

9. 1991 Colts 4.1 ypp

10 1992 Seahawks 3.6 ypp

So, of all the teams you listed, only 92 Seahawks were worse while the 91 Colts were tied in ypp.

Defensive ypp.

2010 Panthers: 5.0 ypp

1. 2009 Rams - 5.9 ypp

2. 2008 Lions - 6.4 ypp

3. 2001 Panthers - 5.6 ypp

4. 2007 Dolphins 5.6 ypp

5. 2006 Raiders 4.6 ypp

6. 1996 Jets 5.4 ypp

7. 1980 Aints 5.6 ypp

8. 1990 Pats 5.9 ypp

9. 1991 Colts 5.3 ypp

10 1992 Seahawks 4.6 ypp

Of the teams listed, the 2010 Panthers are only worse than the 06 Raiders and the 92 Seahawks in Defensive YPP

Off. PPG:

2010 Panthers: 11.6 ppg

1. 2009 Rams - 10.9 ppg

2. 2008 Lions - 16.8 ppg

3. 2001 Panthers - 15.8 ppg

4. 2007 Dolphins 16.7 ppg

5. 2006 Raiders 10.5 ppg

6. 1996 Jets 17.4 ppg

7. 1980 Aints 18.2 ppg

8. 1990 Pats 11.3 ppg

9. 1991 Colts 8.9 ppg

10 1992 Seahawks 8.8 ppg

So far, we are better than the 92 Hawks, 91 Colts, 90 Pats, 06 Raiders, and 09 Rams for scoring per game of the teams listed in the OP.

Def PPG:

2010 Panthers: 23.9 ppg

1. 2009 Rams - 27.2 ppg

2. 2008 Lions - 32.3 ppg

3. 2001 Panthers - 25.6 ppg

4. 2007 Dolphins 27.3 ppg

5. 2006 Raiders 20.8 ppg

6. 1996 Jets 28.4 ppg

7. 1980 Aints 30.4 ppg

8. 1990 Pats 27.9 ppg

9. 1991 Colts 23.8 ppg

10 1992 Seahawks 19.5 ppg

Giving up less points than all but 91 Colts, 92 Hawks, and 06 Raiders.

Point Differential/game:

2010 Panthers: -12.3 ppg

1. 2009 Rams -16.3 ppg

2. 2008 Lions -15.6 ppg

3. 2001 Panthers -9.8 ppg

4. 2007 Dolphins -10.6 ppg

5. 2006 Raiders -10.2 ppg

6. 1996 Jets -10.9 ppg

7. 1980 Aints -12.2 ppg

8. 1990 Pats -16.6 ppg

9. 1991 Colts -14.9 ppg

10 1992 Seahawks -10.8 ppg

So, we're better than 4 teams listed: 91 Colts, 90 Pats, 08 Lions, and 09 Rams, while worse than the rest.

Just confirms that our offense is what is making us as bad as we are. So far, I would say we definitely deserve to be mentioned on an all-time worse team list, and definitely an all-time worst offense list.

Note: we are only better than the 96 Jets and the 06 Raiders in turnover margin/game. The 2001 Panthers actually ended up +1 in turnover margin for the year.

    • You guys remember when the narrative on here was that Bryce would be chronically injured in the NFL due to his size and Anthony Richardson would be super durable due to his? You remember when the narrative was that Bryce was physically incapable of throwing a ball further than 20 yards in the NFL? You remember “I’ll stop complaining when he throws for more than 200 yards and looks like an NFL quarterback”? You remember when 60 sacks was his fault and not the offensive line, slow WRs, and terrible scheme? Pepperidge Farm remembers. It will always be something for some people. Whatever insanity they come up with will be quickly dropped to move on to the next thing. Bryce could have an MVP Super Bowl winning season and they would complain that we can’t run the tush push with him. It will always be something.
    • For the Panthers fans still low on Bryce and demanding that he be a top-10 QB this upcoming season: What stat(s) will you need to see? Not the vibe you want, but rather what does he need to be top-10 in specifically? Passing yards? Completion percentage? Win-loss record? PFF grades? EPA? CPOE? Asking because this was asked before and... well... it ended up that the folks down on him didn't care about the numbers as much as they cared that they just couldn't get passed his size regardless of how he performed. It would be nice to get a straight-forward answer to that without the usual deflection and redirecting.
