Lockout 2011: Another Step Closer to Reality

As this unbearable Panther team goes through the motions of playing out its last, few, miserable weeks there is another story on the wire this morning about the impending lockout that will also claim, if not all, then at least part of the 2011 season.

All this means is Panther fans will go through well in excess of 18 months without seeing an NFL caliber team they can call their own.

The NFL Players Association predicts that the city of Charlotte will lose $160 million in lost jobs and revenue if the NFL season is cancelled next year.

In Georgia, the NFLPA sent letters to Gov. Sonny Perdue, Gov.-elect Nathan Deal and Mayor Kasim Reed, warning that Atlanta could see more than $160 million in lost jobs and revenue if the owners opt to cancel the 2011 football season

These are 2 statements from letters the NFLPA sent to state officials in Georgia and North Carolina. How is it both teams will lose the same amount of revenues when the stadium deals are completely different and the ownership structure is different?

Bottom line: a city like Charlotte can't afford to lose hundreds of millions of dollars over this lockout, which is essentially two fat kids fighting over the last slice of pizza... this is something I would support congress getting involved in.

Yes, but that's not a demand. In the sense that they're threatening to strike if their demands aren't met. It's not even actually a counter offer, since the owners haven't ACTUALLY told the players what it is exactly that they want.

And even if they were striking to get those things they threw out there, I'd be hard pressed to disagree with any of them.
