From Darin: Panthers getting numbers back

thats my dilemma as well. i want the panthers to win, just because i'm a fan, and i think we could actually pull it off this week.

on the other hand...i want that #1 overall and i don't want anything to screw that up.

I agree with you. It's hard.

In other news, atleast starting the other team's fantasy defense every week is leading a resurgence in my fantasy leagues.

If we can give Clausen a 100 yard rusher along with LaFell, Gettis, and Smith then he no longer has any excuses.

I'll finally feel comfy forming an opinion on him. He still gets a few "rookie" mistakes but it's time for him to start making some strides instead of baby steps.

we already gave him that.....we got our tails kicked by Tampa.

yeah I kinda forgot about the D. I think he could have pulled it out against the ravens but not if the D gets run over again.

I think Clausen would have done exactly what St. Pierre did minus the TD throw and 2 INTs. Clausen just provides zero offense. D will get run over this week by Hillis....much like the Tampa game. Leave a D on the field b/c of a lack of offense and big back is gonna make them pay.

lame. being a fan doesn't mean you have just make stuff up and pretend guys are doing something they aren't.

Matt Moore, St. Pierre, Bradford, McCoy, Hall....EVERY SINGLE Panther or rookie QB has been able to get a WR/TE into an endzone. Jimmy hasn't even done that once despite multiple starts. The rookie or the Panthers sucks excuses just don't fly at this point.

Reality is you don't need to try to sell Clasuen which all you are doing w/ that lame joke. New coach means new QB. History proves that in the NFL w/ the exception being SB QBs that inherited.

So TD passes to RBs don't count? Ok. Oh wait - it was a broken play! If Clausen hadn't have taken advantage of a wide open Stewart you'd bitch about that too.

Tell you what, if Clausen looks like Moore over the next 6 games then I'll get on board the Luck train. Until then though, he's the guy.

when the ONLY promising play you have to your resume is a busted gift play to your RB in numerous starts. No, not in my book. Matt Moore, St. Pierre....as horrible as they are, they still provided some offense....offense that came out of actual plays.

Fox leaving pretty much cements Clausen won't be the guy. It just doesn't happen in the NFL w/ new coaches. Again, recent history proves that. Unless a new HC is given a SB QB....it simply doesn't happen. No reason to at this point can Clausen be argued as an exception to that.

Rookies are allowed to be rookies. Clausen has shown nothing except for new flaws most didn't expect. Rookies and other QBs in bad offenses (THIS bad offense). can at least make a play or two mixed in w/ all the garbage. Clausen hasn't once done that.

I am fine playing Clausen b/c that is our only option. Pretending Clausen is something he isn't wouldn't make me a better fan.

Woah, wait, that's the only promising play he's made? Good god you're harsh.

okay, tell me what Clausen has done at this point that should have me believing in him?

Hey, I know I am a hard fan to please. But these aren't college kids. They are paid professional athletes. IMO, there is no way around....Jimmy should have shown something by now....the rookie and the Panther excuse just isn't enough considering how little he has done.

Don't have to believe in him. Just don't judge him yet :D. You've seen our Oline, the pressure he and Moore were under, the constant abuse. Not many veterans can handle that kind of situation, let alone these young guys that are inexperienced.

I'd like to see a game where Clausen is getting even just average protection the entire game, with decent run game. He may surprise us.

We saw that already. Tampa. Decent protection. Good run game. Jimmy couldn't get anything going.

at some point the excuses for Jimmy have to stop. Even St. Pierre....a horrible QB got something going before his implosion late. I can handle Jimmy looking bad. Again, I get he is a rookie and I understand what the Carolina offense is. Still, he hasn't shown anything. Other Panther QBs have had moments at least.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
