Knife slipped, prolly need a couple of stitches

Cut my left thumb, just below the joint, inside about 90 min ago. Sliced in pretty good. ) shaped cut. Bleeding only stopped with a lot of pressure and now a tightly wrapped band-aid. No urgent care centers around here open now and sure am not going to an ER on Sat night. Will see how things look in the morning. Any doctors or nurses out there know if I could wait till Mon morning and go to my doctor's office? I guess prolly not, but would save me some money.

Why go to either? Is a small scar on your finger that big of a deal? If you get it to stop bleeding and it scabs over (assuming you've cleaned it of course), then there's no reason to go pay someone a co-pay to stitch it.

Paramedic here. Professionally I suggest stitches and caution Monday as too late.

Personally I agree with Dimbee, keep it clean and go on as planned. If it does start to bleed significantly then seek care.

Just makes sure it stay clean with peroxide. I sliced a nice little chuck out my leg once. Just used band aids and peroxide it will heal over.

Does peroxide burn? Pretty deep cut. I put neosporin on it so far.

Peroxide will burn, but if you just do it initially you should be fine with sticking to fresh band aids and neosporin.

At night leave it uncovered so it gets some air and dry out.

Yes. Didnt have neosporin at the time. I grew up on peroxide to clean cuts burns but you get used to it. Honestly without seeing how deep it is I would Joat advice.

ER copay is $200 + 20%. Sat night in the ER...could sit there till tomorrow anyway.

Hasn't bleed through the band-aid in last 90 min. Going to wrap and splint it so I do not bend it overnight. See what I have when I wake up.

I hate the sight of blood, especially my own!

well, you should have 18-24 hours since the cut occured to get it stitched. I had a problem with a boating accident a few months ago...ended up not needing stitches, but it was worth the ER trip.

For a Saturday night, if you are in the Charlotte area, go to the new CMS on South Tryon close to Wylie. When I had to go, there was absolutely no one there and the one near Carolina Place was ridiculous.

edit: but of course this depends if you even are close to south charlotte

Thanks Beach...I am in Morganton...90 min from Charlotte. If it looks like I need something tomorrow morning, I'll find an urgent care center. Not in Morganton though..we don't have one. lol. We also have no traffic problems. Can't have everything.
