Charlotte "do you remember" thread

Oh crap...I remember they had "The Edge" banner right in front of that huge ass slide. Wow, some good stuff in this thread

Oh, and anyone remember that huge sport bar that was across from the current Infiniti & near Value City on Independence? I remember that being pretty cool...tons of tvs

When it was brand new, it was called The Scoreboard Restaurant, shaped like a stadium and all. I remember it had the individual speakers at every table.

Best thread I've seen in a long time, and I'm proud to be a native Charlottean.

How about Service Merchandise and that long roller/conveyor belt that they would send your packages down? Remember the short stints of Hannaford grocery stores, Pharmor drug stores, and the HQ (Home Quarters)?

Anyone else recall Gus Purcell's seafood restaurant on Independence, or the Hideaway fishcamp on Monroe Road (used to be in the country)?

The Hideaway... was gonna mention that fish camp out on Monroe that was hidden away behind that railroad bridge, but couldn't remember the name of it :D

And Service Merchandise... remember before that it was a Sam Solomon? And Riches moved in across the street from all that.

And I do remember Gus'. Also, Nixon's Steakhouse and Dinner Club, on the corner of Pearson and Independence. Right across from the Ervin Building.

Clarks, which then became Cooks down in the Amity Gardens Shopping Center, and the Barclay Cafeteria. They used to have rides come into that shopping center every so often.

Edit: Oh, and Louis and Sons in that same shopping center

I rememeber Media Play where the Harris Teeter and Jackon's Java is on 49.

The movie theater next to media play there.

When Highland Creek was only 4-5 sections, and the closest gas station around was on Harris Blvd.

Rocket Chair at Discovery Place,

Playing on Hockey teams/practice at Eastland Mall

YMCA camp in N.Char was at the Mallard Creek BBQ place and they still had no building built at university.

95.1 and 106.5 had almost the same name at one point didn't they? The End and The Edge? lol

Remember Photon - the laser tag mecca on Albemarle next to the Regency Theater? Back then, it was justifiable to construct a building that large just for laser tag.

What about that store Three Guys, eventually became a Kroger?

Roll-Around on Delta Rd (now Harris), The movie theater in Eastland that had the large murals of Charlie Chaplin and others on the wall outside the theater?

The Oaken Bucket and Wild Bull were the shiznit at Carowinds.

Wrestling at the Grady Cole Center, also where I saw my first concert (local band Sugar Creek).

Sorry for any repeats, I just got on a roll...:D

I think Laser Quest is still open on Independce isn't it? Had a birthday once there

What about nostalgic tittay bars? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Topless - the dive on 74 in Stallings, just past the 485 exit. It's still there, and has been forever. They sometimes leave a door open, so if you drive by real slow....I thought I saw a nipple, but it could have been a light switch (Doug Heffernan).
