Official Panthers/Falcons Tailgate Thread

Panthers and Falcons this Sunday at 1pm.

This week's tailgate is sponsored by Saltman and Madhatter. We would like to thank them for their generosity and for making this tailgate happen. The bike donation is this weekend more info will be coming about it as soon as we hear from the team. So far almost $2000 has been donated and if anyone would like to donate via paypal simply contact me via PM. To date over $20,000 worth of bikes has been donated since 2004.

This week's food is being done by Ranucci's Big Butt BBQ (www.ranuccis.com). Ranucci places in every competition he enters and recently finished 9th place in the world BBQ nationals in Memphis. Over the years we have been lucky to have him as part of the Huddle and thousands of people have sampled his food at our tailgates. His food is the reason the bike drive has been successful over the years as people show up at the tailgate just to eat his food. Since the bike donation will be this weekend, all bucket $$ will go to the cook.

This week's menu includes the following: Ranucci's famous pulled pork BBQ, baked beans, lima beans, slaw, rolls, chips, and turds. Ham biscuits will be available at 8am. Various sodas and waters will be the drinks. Here's the usual info:

FAQ:

1. Who will be there/who can come? Let's start this out by saying that anybody can come and everyone is welcome. It has been this way ever since we started in 2004 and it makes the day interesting to say the least. Just come on down. The first tailgate started with about 8 people and since then thousands have tailgated with us, some every week. We were all newcomers at one point or another. Yes, even opposing fans are welcome.

2. Where? The tailgate is in a parking lot across the street (same side) from Picasso's located at 230 S. Church St. It's a big parking lot that borders Church, 3rd, and Poplar downtown. In particular we are in the corner of 3rd and Poplar. There will be loud music and a Carolina Huddle banner up on a tent along the sidewalk of 3rd St. We are right beside the lower entrance to this lot.

3. When? We will start tailgating at 7am, going until right before kickoff. No food will be served until around 10:30am and if you get there past 12:30pm or so don't expect any food to be left.

4. What do I bring? We provide just about everything. Food, plates, side items, non alcoholic drinks like waters, a diet soda, and regular soda. We have tents in case it rains and a few chairs if you really need one. If you drink alcohol, you need to bring it because the Huddle does not in any way provide alcohol for tailgates.

5. How much? We provide everything for you to have a good tailgate and leave full before going into the game. The food you eat at this tailgate is way better than the cold weenies and soggy fries you buy in the stadium. Take that into account when the donation bucket comes around. Consider you didn't have to bring any grill, cook, or grocery shop. You will be eating unlimited competition quality BBQ with sides and drinks. A $10 donation per person is not unreasonable, more if you can afford it.

Parking in the lot we're at costs $25/space. You do not have to park there to tailgate with us, few people do. You can easily find spots a few blocks back for a fraction of the cost (down to $5)of this lot and just walk up. Some people take the light rail in for a few bucks.

Disclaimer: There will probably be loud music. The Huddle does not take responsibility for what is seen and heard at a tailgate so consider this before bringing children. The Huddle does not police adult behavior at tailgates.

Any other questions this is the thread to ask

Hey guys,

I just made the decision to come down for this game and got my tickets and plane tickets last night.

I wanted to know if any new banners are needed? Or I can make some Toys for Tots and/or some Carolina Huddle decals. If so, please let me know today so I can produce them and get them ready by tomorrow.

Thanks!

it's been a couple of years since I've had the opportunity to partake in the huddle tailgates, but I got to give a shot out here...

big fricken kudos to the huddle members for stepping up and continuing the tradition of sponsoring these things! I know Jesterhawk and I did one last time Seattle was in town and we had a great time. Plus it was bike parade day and that was a great feeling.

and also, I big ole hellz ya to the huddle for continuing your support of Toys for Tots. I know when times are as tough as they are, charity is typically one thing that most people cutback on first, but it's also these tough times when charity is in the biggest need too. Great job, makes me proud to be part of the huddle!!!

    • I don't think it was fear of the unknown because he tried to hide the extent of the injuries that made him drop. After the drop, the reports I heard were that teams knew what was wrong with his knee and it was something similar to another athlete from a few years ago (honestly don't remember if it was even a football player).  That it was basically one of those things where he should be fine for a while, there isn't a huge concern of immediate injury risk.   But what he has going on with his knee is something that is degenerative and there's little chance he'll be able to play more than 5 or so years on it before he won't be able to play anymore. So basically it was teams knowing if they draft him, he's probably going to be only a rookie contract player and even if he's great, you might not be able to get use out of him on a second contract.  Which in turn makes the drop make sense, but I'm kinda surprised some contending team didn't take him late in the 1st, hoping he'd put them over the top on a SB run but then not even have to worry about giving him a big contract in 4 years too.
    • Depends if they see the writing on the wall with their roster and contracts and decide to bite the bullet and begin a complete rebuild and roster overhaul.  I have no clue why some franchises (IE us) refuse to do this and keep half assing trying to win 8 games or so.  Do it correctly, take your lumps and build a contender.  We shall see what loomis decides.
    • Each team plays 17 games.  I do not see why they don't just have each team play one international game per year.  Neutral site game, 8 home, 8 away.
