Unintentional Racist Moment

So, I work at a high school that's 98% African American, both in students and staff (I'm one of the lone white guys). Today I was eating lunch with my regular group and one of the other teachers brings up how she read that black children were cheaper to adopt. Me, someone who always things practically thought, then said, "Well, its a simple case of supply and demand."

Which was followed by blank stares for a second, the resounding laughter.

I always thought it was just cooler to adopt black children, you look like you care and really don't have to ever do anything again...

You teach at West Charlotte? Just a guess.

Wouldn't a kid be cheaper to adopt if they have the aids? This could be the case.
