Andrew Luck News & Updates

Im not opposed to signing a vet AND Draft a QB. But signing a vet and not addressing the QB position in the draft (like we've been doing for years) has gotten us nowhere.

Id gladly take McNabb to help groom a young QB. but hes how old? Exactly how long do you expect him to play?

We got a highly tauted rookie QB this year, remember? The most NFL ready QB and you guys are already throwing him under the bus. This board will crash and burn if we draft Luck and he has a shitty rookie year.

We have a young team. We are building with youth. We got rid of most veterans. Why then would we bring in McNabb or any veteran, who maybe has 2 halfway decent years left in him, to keep the QB spot warm for an eventual rookie. Then when the rookie was starting to play, the rest of the team would be playoff ready?

No

It makes more sense to have a young QB learning with the rest of the young team. It would also be more in line with the M.O. of the FO.

lol @ people trying to compare Alex smith to Donavon Mcnabb.

Alex Smith in 2010: 12TDs 10INT 60.4% 210YPG 79.7 Rating

Donovan McNabb in 2010: 14TDs 15INT 58.3% 260YPG 77.1 Rating

How exactly are they any different? It's not as if McNabb is running around anymore. He's got only 70 yards less rushing than Smith and 6 more fumbles. Plus McNabb is 34. He's just as ridiculous of a suggestion as Smith. One would be far cheaper and less competition to sign though.

Glad to see you put so much thought into that one. And what exactly has McNabb done to prove he's any better? Getting benched for Grossman?

Alex Smith has never won a playoff game. How many games has he won? He sucks, look around, ask around. Any way you spin it he sucks. And unless McNabb pulls a Favre with another team, he looks washed up. He is lacking weapons though. Hed make a good mentor.

Keep riding on that one.

I hope Richardson isn't dumb enough to secure a losing season by starting another rookie QB. He's a business man and one bad year hurts, two bad years is a trend. I think he'll allow the new caoch to "dabble" in FA instead of being held out of it.

im not saying to get any of them. IM just saying there is no way in hell I would want Alex smith as my option. Id rather draft luck or *** have clausen start over alex smith.

Smith also hasn't made the playoffs, but that's got a lot to do with him being on a shitty 9ers team for the last 5 years. You make a good point with the last bit though...but if Luck eventually took over would McNabb feel "disrespected" again?

I would rather get Luck too so they don't have to look through the bargain bin. Clausen is god-awful, always has been and always will be. Unless the goal is to suck again and get the #1 next year to draft Luck then there's no reason to believe Clausen is the long term answer.

this isn't about who we want starting, it's about a mentor for the young guy. Someone on the sideline that can help him out when times are rough. McNabb may be that player but honestly I suspect he will still want to start.

so really, it's like this:

Luck & Mcnabb & Clausen/Whoever or

Alex Smith & Clausen & Whoever

step 1: sign mcnabb

step 2: let pickles sit on the bench

step 3: draft AJ green

step 4: WIN!

I could live with this scenario. If Clausen improves and AJ Green proves to be a NFL capable QB, then we'll have the envious scenario San Diego had years ago with Rivers AND Brees. Then we'll have some serious leverage.

Meanwhile we have a veteran that can get us more wins than the rookies could under the same circumstances.

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
    • When we didn't trade him to the Rams or the Bears (I believe the Bears said they would take one of Brown/ Burns/DJ Moore) we should have just signed him and kept him.  We should have traded him to the Rams obviously and we should have kept DJ and traded Burns.  We made all three wrong choices with Burns lol.
