Is Gettis the guy?

I was just thinking that if we did select Green and Gettis and LaFell continued to develop then we probably go from worst to first in terms of overall talent at the position. You could even go with a Vet QB because one of these guys(including Smith) is going to get open almost every play.

I do NOT think we should take Green early. I truly believe Gettis and LaFell can be #2 guys on ANY team right now. We don't need another receiver and let one of them go to waste. We need a QB (Clausen could be the guy... We'll see) and some D-linemen early in this draft.

Both Gettis and LaFell are going to be solid guys for the Panthers. And if Luck is there you have to take him. And for my money give Newton serious consideration. But if we don't go quarterback, you have to think that Green is the next best player out there. He really is a game changer. We now have our Brandon Marshall sans the problems, a guy who will make any quarterback look good. With Smith, Green, LaFell and Gettis you will have one of the best groups in football.

Of course if you go defense you have to consider Peterson as the next Revis. Someone who could solidify your secondary on one side for a decade. And Dareus would be outstanding as a DT who could has the flexibility to be an impact player in the 4-3 who could transition to a 3-4 down the line.

There are going to be good choices whether we draft 1 or 3. And you can make a case for a number of guys with all our needs.

Oooooh! Snap!

Actually (if you really think about it, and see the raw potential), Gettis could very well be a V-Jax type in the making. He just has to get more experience route running, watching film, and learning the telltale signs of opposing defenses. Stay with me now...can't you see it?

Of course, there is the question at QB...

1. Practice- looks like some pretty intense defense

2. He landed out of bounds on that catch. (I remember that because I keep looking for him show me a catch with his hands)

3. Combine- no defender at all.

I haven't seen him make a "catch" that gets yards in a real game that was caught with his hands. You're gonna have to do that to be a #1 receiver in the NFL. I'm pulling for him but I'm just being realistic. I'm sure it is something he can work on. It one of the things that makes smitty great-extending and out battling the cb for the ball.

Your logic---particularly for number 2---is somewhat skewed. Yes, he was at practice and the combine, but a catch with the hands is a catch with the hands. Yes, he landed out of bounds, but he still made the catch. He still showed you that he can catch the ball with his hands during a game time situation. To doubt that he can when the play actually counts, inbounds, is a little bit of a stretch. I guess what I am saying is that you are using a strange litmus test.

No, I'm just saying that 100% of his catches have been the good ol' basket catch. I hope he is the best WR in the history of the NFL, but your gonna have to catch some real passes with your hands to be a #1 receiver. I was hyped up after that play because I had been saying to my girlfriend that he never catches the ball with his hands.
