Why not just sign/trade for 1 of these guys next year instead of drafting QB?

I'm not counting on Luck coming out of college. I think he's gonna enjoy one more year at Stanford. We should get a vet to mentor Clausen. That's what he's missing in his developement. Plus, a vet will take some preasure off him having to carry the team. I'm still holding on to the hope that he's not a flop and will eventually be able to make plays without pissing himself. Hey,maybe next year Smitty won't be cussing him out during and after games. Then again he might punch him in his squishy face, too.

As bad as I want to win next year I'd rather have a player to give us 10+good years than someone who will only give us two maybe three years. The NFL and especially the NFCS is built around franchise QBs. Id like to get a vet but one thats only there to provide leadership to our franchise QB. We need a long term solution, you cant slap a band aid on a bullet wound.

Right, franchise QBs.. Didn't New Orleans SIGN one??

The point they are trying to make is that none of those guys you named seem to be a franchise quarterback that can lead this team for the next decade. Andrew Luck has a great chance of being that guy.

Flynn has one decent game and people are ready to bring him on in, lol. Got to love how Panther fans have been conditioned to accept mediocrity.

He attained a QB rating, 100.2 (in his first start), against one of the best teams in the NFL right now that we haven't eclipsed since nearly the same date of 2009.

Mediocrity?? I would've loved to have seen mediocrity this year rather than this BS. It would have at least been worth paying to see rather than feeling like my $ is being thrown directly down the toilet.

I understand that. But for every QB in college who is touted as the next "franchise QB", you can name another who was touted as that who flopped.

A few who come to mind:

Akili Smith

Ryan Leaf

Tim Couch

Jamarcus Russell

Rick Mirer

Joey Harrington

David Carr

Alex Smith

To try and fail > Failing to try

Luck > Clausen

So just because there is a chance of a bust, we shouldn't pick a QB who could be the best since Peyton Manning and who scouts have stuggled to find a weak point in his game?

No, because we picked 3 QBs in the past draft and we can't afford to have a 4th, and another flop.

Everybody LOVES to draft a "franchise QB" with the first pick of the draft. How many of those have panned out into franchise QBs?

You don't fix three mistakes by making a fourth.

Pass on Luck, and he actually turns out to be the next Manning (like is almost universally expected by scouts) for a free agent that's already got wear on his tires and bad play on his record, and we could well wind up looking like the dumbest franchise in sports.

If they get the #1, there's no way they should pass on Luck, none whatsoever.

Very Rarely does a team get an opportunity to draft a franchise QB high in rd1

So because some have them have failed in the past, you would rather not try?

That's would be kinda like saying "It didn't work out for me and that girl so I will just stay away from girls forever"

I would support getting one of those guys AND drafting Luck.

Exactly....

Whether we draft Luck or stay with Clausen (if Luck does not come out), we MUST sign a solid veteran QB.

We need somone we can win with now and that can help groom a young QB. One of the biggest failed gambles with JR was to go into this season with 2 rookies....and one basically a rookie.

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
