Why the pass game isn't working

CRA

Recommended Posts

The pass game hasn't worked here for a long, long time. There have been isolated games where it's been great, but as a framework it's been trash.

Does anyone else find it cute that CRA feels the need to point out every single day that Clausen sucks? I think 99% of this forum knows that, yet he keeps at it...day after day after day. It's a sickness I tell you. And now he goes back to Moore talk. Good god, man. Let it go.

what do you want me to talk about? it is the biggest non coach issue on this team. So unilke the coaching it has a greater chance of change occuring.

I only brought up Moore b/c someone mentioned the playcalls/Davidson. Considering he was forced to run the same lame offense......and by FAR his best throws were to plays in the middle. I figured it was worth noting that Clausen has plays he can make to there based on this offense Davidson calls.

personally I thought that number was interesting.

I think it's interesting that you continue to bash Jimmay for protecting the ball and find reasons to praise Moore despite the fact that he was throwing ints at a rate twice that of almost every starting QB.

I'm not praising Moore. Moore played like utter crap. It wasn't the OL's fault or Davidsons. Moore flat out made poor throws this year. Sure he had things working against him like Jimmy. But Moore stunk this year. Moore did not play like he did in prior years. He flat out missed throws. Moore attempted to run a offense....so I give him credit for that.

Jimmy isn't protecting the ball. Jimmy can't make basic plays. I would like for that to change. I am not obsessed like many here, in fact I probably want Jimmy to win more than most here. I wouldn't be upset if they went 2-0 to finish the season.

But the biggest issue on the team is going to be talked about......repeatedly. That is normal.

CRA did you walk in on Pickles giving you mom the cucumber in the caboose or something? Did he offer you a cucumber water or sandwich later? I mean really it's getting old. We get it you don't like Jimmy.

I actually like Jimmy. I am not one of the idiots bashing the other stuff about him that doesn't relate to what he does on the field. Jimmy has handled himself very well considering what all he is dealing with......and that is a big positive (one I think contradicts a lot of the bogus rumors about him pre draft).

I don't like the way he plays QB. We could be a great deal better with some slight change from Clausen in a few areas. Pardon me for wanting to talk about those areas. Fox/Davidson aren't gonna change to make us better over the next two weeks....Jimmy can.

You're comparing them. It seemed obvious that you were trying to show one as superior to the other. If you look at the adjusted stats, they actually are quite similar. The biggest difference is that one has had 3+ years to adjust to the pro game, the other is the rookie that you want to throw under the bus.

AND I don't agree that it's the biggest issue on the team. It's only the one that people think represents the quickest fix. Any inexperienced QB would have similar issues.

Not really. I am saying Clausen needs to use the middle of the field. period. OL, Davidson, rookie....non of those are reasons for him not doing such. Moore was brought up here to show what Davidson is doing w/ Steve Smith this season. Smitty made those plays for Moore. He can do it for Clausen. Those are the routes Smitty is now running in Carolina.

what is the biggest noncoach issue then?

Protecting the ball has gotten us a safe 2-12 record. Clausen, more so Davidson and Fox have not taken one chance this year. This year was poo from the get go and they played if safe, for what reason? And now Clausen could be ruined and he might never recover. I do think he will be a serviceable BU, more than Carr that's for sure. But it is looking like if Luck comes out, we will get him, so it's time to move on from the bashing of Clausen.

until we have the #1 pick.....I think we are getting ahead of ourselves. It is looking more and more like Atl will have nothing to play for week 17. Clausen could easily be competing for the starter job next season against someone not named Luck.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
