Oliver Luck's Interview Yesterday (Oliver is Andrew Luck's Father)

OL: I think anybody who understands labor negotiations could look at a situation now and say that there is at least some likelihood that there could be work stoppage, whether that is a strike or a lockout. The only thing I can say to kids who are considering coming out early, like my son is that there is a possibility, how strong that possibility is for work stoppage, I don't know. But there is a possibility and it's one of the things you have to factor in.

MM: It's got to be good when it comes time for your son to make his decision, that at least he has someone with some experience in his corner, who can sit down and give him some advice.

OL: Well, he'll make his own decisions. He's a smart kid, and he's made good decisions in life, going to Stanford and playing for coach [ Jim] Harbaugh. And he's got plenty of people, me included that will give him advice. But ultimately it comes down to a pretty simple question, what does he want to do? I think virtually ever college kid, including my son, wants to challenge himself against the best, and the best is the NFL.

Gantt believes this is good for us. We shall see.....

Why would he risk coming out next year instead of this year when a rookie cap could be in place? he could be the last big money #1 pick, unless the CBA comes into effect before this draft.

Last month a well known players agent gave his opinions about this subject. He strongly believed that the new agreement will include a rookie salary cap AND that it will go in effect for the players drafted this April, even if the new agreement isn't signed until the summer or fall.

Meaning the last chance players drafted in the 1st round had to cash in was last years draft.

ok, didnt realize that, but makes sense. So, there is no real advantage to coming out this year except that he is a lock for #1 and healthy.

Just because he likes the challenge of competing agianst the best doesnt mean he will leave early. Look at it this way. Luck comes out and then there is a work stoppage. He doesnt play football for the whole year and doesnt get paid. Would you A) Take the safe route and play another year and get one more closer to a degree or B) come out and have the chance of not playing for a year.

The NFL needs to get the CBA done before kids declare for the draft. Which wont happen.

how is A a safe route?

If there is a work stoppage, he goes back to school and gets his degree... and is drafted #1 and gets the money like he will be. Also, there is only a small chance of a work stoppage, but there is a GOOD chance he will have extra time to work on his degree due to the CBA stuff if he DOES come out.

If he chooses A, he risks dropping quite far in the draft, because his numbers will likely fluctuate a bit and there is a good chance that with Harbaugh gone some flaws may start to show. Finally, even if he is all he's cracked up to be, there is the risk of injury if he plays for another year.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
