I think I figured one part of Fox out..

This is just a theory now. Let's keep that in mind.

Pretty much all of Fox's tenure he's been very inconsistent. It's also been noted that he's a "player's coach".

I think these two qualities are very closely related.

Fox gives the team breaks when they do well, even cutting training camp short before they have proved anything. Bye weeks are seen as breaks regardless of playoffs.

These kind of actions are almost like a parent/child. View his actions as unconditional support. As apposed to a boss/employee who only offers conditional support relative to your performance.

So as a result the players all love him and play hard for him. But also there is nobody there to fight the inevitable lapse in motivation that will happen with most players. He'll support them unconditionally whether they suck or not.

Think about the clapping. They get a clap regardless.

I think his philosophy works well overall but it leads to the team being streaky when there isn't an ideal mix of leaders/chemistry. I also think that's why he could never put a back to back winning season together.

Just a thought. He's a good coach but I don't think his strategy will ever be consistent. Too much of the coaching is left up to the players.

Just a thought.

I also think this is why he's been able to salvage disastrous seasons into mediocre ones.

The team really fights hard for him until the very, very end because they love him.

But they also love him because he really just lets them do their thing and supports them either way. There are in control of really motivating themselves.

So I think inevitably the players get a little content with success and quit working as hard as they did so they sink down.

Just a theory but it sure feels that way sometimes. Everytime we're good we immediately follow up with dissapointment. During a lot of the pooty seasons we end up winning games in the end that are only moral victories. But many teams give up at that point, for some reason we don't.

I dont think he is detail-oriented enough. Yes, they play hard for him but at the end of the day I see a great d coordinator/assistant. He doesnt adjust well to the trends year in and year out and he's too emotionally involved with players, this is business man

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
