Surprised no one has mentioned...

He could very well be brought back in. The mass purging is nothing more than making the position much more attractive to candidates. Once hired, they will be urged to hire sm3 in some capacity. Of course, he may get picked up elsewhere.

only reason having sam mills III around was sentimentality and i'm not a fan of keeping people around just for that reason. we'll get over it.

skipper was arguably a top 5 RB coach... you just dont get rid of a guy like him. i know its a weird feeling to have had a competent coach... but he was one

here's the problem with this...new coach comes in and starts with his own way of doing things and skipper says, "but here's how we do it around here." not saying that would happen, but it could. and he's also a vestige of the old staff. as efefective as he might still be, it's better for the team and the new coach to be able to bring in his own staff across the board. chemsitry among the coaches is essential to make sure everyone is on the same page. the players will get used to the new coaches and the new system.

I think our problem was that our coaches suffered from extreme groupthink over the past few years. getting new blood in there should help things out a lot and keep things fresh.
totally agreed here. skipper would be a massive holdover from foxball.

I thought of this too, but I think there's a decent chance he'll rejoin the staff when it starts to form. After all, his father survived coaching changes. And if not, he's an extremely intelligent guy and has a lot to offer whichever team he joins up with next year (and I know he has no interest in leaving the NFL right now.)

    • The aversion to tying up too much money in the ground game around when it’s what’s winning us games is crazy to me. I get letting Rico walk if you think he’s easily replaceable but I don’t see many people arguing that, just applying an arbitrary salary cap based on what we think RBs are currently worth. I’d rather be stuck with Hubbard as an overpaid backup (not the worst one to have, mind you) than lose out on the most productive player on the offense personally.
    • Why do people keep saying things like “it’s not Young’s fault we spent so much to draft him”? Who cares if it’s his fault?  Nobody is saying send him to jail or anything.  People aren’t talking about blame for the decision to draft him, they’re talking about how bad he is as a QB and how we’d be much better with even an average QB.  Pointing out that we sunk a lot of resources into drafting him isn’t invalidated because he didn’t make that decision himself. Doesn’t matter whose fault that was, he’s still not playing like a QB who was drafted at all, much less one that cost two firsts, two seconds and a #1 WR.
