Mentor for our QB's

We obviously need one whether we draft Luck or not. I've thought about what kind of traits a mentor would need.

1) He should have some talent so that he could start a few games while our young QB gets the hang of the offense.

2) He should come here knowing that offering help to our young QB is his main job and that he will be the backup when the time comes to pass the torch.

3) Should be an QB that has had some measure of success but is no longer a viable every week starter.

Some QB's that might fit that criteria:

Charlie Batch

Jon Kitna

Byron Leftwich

Marc Bulger

and i hate to mention it:

Jake Delhomme

There are others that i missed but i think the backup Qb will be just as important as who starts for us next year.

God this is such a tough question to answer for:A) the boobies were extremely distracting, and very nice, and B) Great question and PantherFool and be sure to check in next time for my answer. Thanks again caller...

umm...couldn't agree more, but shouldn't you put in Kerry Collins into the qb pool? we have to think about places that are going to clean house to see if we can get any good back ups anywhere. What if Chad Pennington doesn't retire? I like Marc Bulger a lot as a possible back up.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
