Oliver Luck on WFNZ tomorrow at 10:25am

from listening to the interview Andrew's dad had a lot to do with this decision in general.

1. He was an NFL QB who went to school in the offseason to finish his law degree, he knows first hand how tough that was, and that it isnt possible to do in todays NFL given all the responsibilities of the QB during the offseason.

2. He went through a decision with a looming lockout in 1987, and decided to leave the NFL since he had his law degree at that time.

3. Oliver was also part of labor negotiations or something during his time in the NFL and still has some pulse on the current situation. He believes the pay will be the same this year as next.

4. He knows draft position doesnt automatically mean you have a successful career. Said Andrew had only gotten better as he has played in college, no reason to believe they would regress next season.

5. Harbough decision to leave or stay would no impact the team at Stanford in his opinion. they have a lot of guys coming back and a good recruiting class coming in next season.

6. Andrew said he went to college to play football and get a degree. Since his dad took the time to finish his degree, i have a feeling Andrew doesnt want to seem like he is taking the easy way out to the money.

So, i think that if i Luck had a typical dad who wasnt so plugged into this type of situation they would have told him to jump at the money. but given the fact that his father has been in very similar shoes, he probably advised him to do whatever he felt like doing. Of course a kid is going to chose being a campus king over an NFL rookie, simple as that.

Oliver Luck is a stand-up guy to give his time to the Charlotte media to discuss his son's rationale behind staying. They really don't owe us anything. It does make me feel better though.

Oliver does seem to have a good amount of influence on Andrew (rightfully so being his Dad and being qualified with his background to give him good advise).

Andrew Luck's reasons for staying in school over leaving seem pretty valid to me. Andrew seems like a stand-up guy as well.

It does suck for us Panthers fans b/c Andrew Luck seems on every level to be the real deal, but it just wasn't meant to be. Can't be mad at him for making his own decision.

:iagree:

After I drank heavily, passed out and woke up, I too have come to the same opinion of the Luck family.

i would have to say, that is pretty stand-up of the guys dad to take the time to do an interview on the local sports station to settle things down. seems like a nice guy, i feel better now,

Its call CYA so Andrew doesn't look like Eli a few years ago. Its the proverbial "its not you its me" line.

    • Agreed.  Unless a DE is a Julius Peppers type, it takes a couple of years to really develope.  I am hoping we can get one to go with Prince and Scourton.  Or another Interior Dlineman might work as well.
    • Great work Dan. This is the first time in a long time heading into day 1 of the draft that I don’t care which way we go.
    • I don't think it's about Bryce's ego. I think it's about Tepper's. Bryce was Tepper's draft pick. Everything that's been done has been to protect the image.  New HC with a shiny contract fired after he loses interest immediately after he supposedly drafted his guy. He can't make an offense for him because he's the QB that fits his style of offense. Bryce's rookie season is one of the worst in history. It was obvious he wasn't ready. He was named starter without any real camp competition. No real preseason reps. Coach keeps playing him despite terrible play.  A new coach and GM are hired on the condition that Bryce is the guy. No searching for a new QB. It's Bryce or else.  Bryce is benched year 2 for multiple games, replaced by Dalton who stunk it up proving he's washed up, then Bryce comes back in after Dalton injures his thumb and finishes the season. Dalton's contract is up, plenty of younger, higher upside FAs available. Dalton is brought back 2 years guaranteed as a "mentor". Jack Plummer, so bad in 24', brought back to camp in 25' and lo and behold, he's still terrible and has no business being on a field.  Other QBs brought in, the most recognizable being Hooker. All those brought in so bad even the PS can't hold them.  And now, after 3 years of bottom tier QB performance, with Dan saying we need to improve our QB room, we bring in a QB that's not passed for over 2500 yards in either of his 2 seasons as a starter, before he's benched and sent to the life of being a backup.  The common denominator in all of this is there's never been any real competition here, even when it was justified. After last year, it's debatable if he's starting QB material. Good moments and horrific moments. From one minute to the next, you don't know what you're gonna get.  So if you ask yourself why some of us feel bringing in KP is a joke, it's because it looks how it's always looked. That everything being done is to prove that David Tepper was right when he made the choice to draft Bryce and everything done since has been to protect that decision. Bringing in another QB with even the potential to challenge Bryce was always out of the question.
