Good for Luck

If a promising engineering student was offered a $1 millon yearly salary to immediately quit school and work for a failing firm full time with a constant threat of debilitating injury that would result in them no longer being able to draw that lucrative paycheck, do you think they'd take it or stay in school?

I'd take it, but I'm not an engineering student. I'm also not a quarterback, so I can't judge Luck for his decision and I'm not going to. More power to him. If a degree is that important to him, then he should get one. If he wants to avoid playing for the Panthers that much, then he shouldn't play for the Panthers (and if that's his reason, I don't want him no matter how well he sells a play action pass).

Sure, it may make things a little more difficult for the franchise, but that's not his fault.

I hope he finds good fortune somewhere else.

It's obvious that money has never been an issue for Luck due to his family being wealthy. Anyone who has ever had money problems would jump at the chance to leave school and make 50 million just by putting their name at the bottom of a page. Just wondering if he will regret his decision when Stanford sucks next year and his stock falls.

I was going to make a similar thread. I agree wholeheartedly. I'm not mad at the kid. he did what he wanted to do in his heart. Money or glory isn't everything, and I won't judge him on his decision to pass up millions to pursue his degree. I wish him the best of luck

I agree and I think some fans hating on a college student for deciding to stay in school and finish college is silly and immature.

Luck is making serious life-altering decisions. The fans need to understand the NFL for us is ENTERTAINMENT and should not be taken THAT SERIOUS!

I think the main thing is college is fun as hell and you only get to do it once. That plus his family could afford to insure him, and you throw it the possiblity of no football due to the CBA he decided to enjoy college for one more year.

I am just going to hate the next 10years after the 2012 draft when and if he becomes the next great QB for some other team. :ma:

I don't know if everyone knows this.. but you can enter the NFL and still get your degree without risking a new college HC, OC, and new teammates who left to go to the NFL or graduate..

do a pro & con and there is very little reason to stay in college.. the Panthers are only a QB and a good OC/HC away from being highly competitive.. throw in a DT and CB and there aren't really any holes we have to deal with.. our concern then will be adding depth..

I have college degrees and do not seek employment in the field of my degrees because I enjoy the job I currently have. This has put me in a position of not being able to seek employment in those fields as they are either slowly dying or currently not hiring. A lot of people would say that I missed my chance and should have regret over not bettering my situation when I could have. I still enjoy my job and my life as much as I did before.

Luck has the tools to be sucessful at whatever he wants. Even if he shatters his leg and can never play again, he'll be fine.

he will be fine. cause he can still get his degree and play in the NFL.. or shatter his leg in the NFL and still get his degree.

now it's just as likely that we lucked out by him stayin in college if it turns out he isn't a quality NFL QB.. but regardless, him staying in college wherever he went wasn't his best decision..

how about this.

a QB with a promsing career and a likely guaranteed contract that will be around $30-50mil at least ahead of him opted to stay in college for another year and play for free in a program that will be losing its coach (responsible for much of its success) and its Oline (responsible for his staying upright and giving him holes to run through and time to throw). his production could very well fall off and his risk of injury goes up...both of which could cost him most of that guaranteed money and also exposes him to career ending injury without the benefit of getting paid at all, even though he could fiish school at any time, just so he can hang with his boys for a little while longer....oh and get a piece of paper that he can get at any time and that he won't really need.

sorry...that is just college and i loved it a lot, but given a choice between one year of those experiences and a guaranteed $30-50mil there is no way i would choose school. my future and taking care of my family is just too important. you don't pass up opportunities like that and you don't risk losing them because of one year of school.

Go back and read my post before yours and I will say something similar here also. Saying "I want to finish and get my degree" is a nice way to say.... "college is alot of fun, I love being the king on campus, and you only get to have this life experience onces so I am staying". Its not really or much about getting the degree.

I totally understand where you are coming from.. but sometimes we can get too sensational with this stuff.. the kid flat out isn't benefiting himself in any way by staying in school.

now we can glorify "his" decision to go back to school, but in the end, he's not doing himself any favors and only makes for a great movie where he and all his teammates win the championship in the end.. (but he can't, cause they are leaving, and most likely, so is his coach and the entire coaching staff)

again, I get it.. it's his decision, and only his to make. and because of that, no one can tell him different.. but the discussion will still exist on why it's such a bad idea for him to make that decision..

Wait a second there mr lucky boy, you said this guys pretty much had no flaws and was the best prospect since Manning, so why would his production fall off if he's that good? Your jumping trains and looking foolish because your savior isn't coming here. He realized that Carolina was horrific elsewhere and a QB alone couldn't fix this mess. He would be put in Jimmy Clausens situation, a no win situation. THERE IS NO OTHER REASON WHY LUCK WOULD PUSH 30-50MILL GUARANTEED AWAY, NONE! Like I said, trade down, and get more help.
