He keeps saying how back in 97, NYJ was screwed because Manning stayed and they had to draft Keyshawn:

He writes this article and post it today:

8. Tough to compete: If Andrew Luck had turned pro instead of returning to Stanford, he would have been a cinch to go No. 1 to Carolina. Right now, the Panthers are in the toughest quarterback division in the NFL. No division boasts a better trio of quarterbacks than Brees, Freeman and Atlanta's Matt Ryan. To have any chance to compete in their division, the Panthers must have a franchise-type quarterback. Without Luck, Carolina must lean on Jimmy Clausen or another quarterback it identifies in the draft. But Carolina could be affected the same way the New York Jets were in 1997. Back then, the Jets owned the No. 1 pick and could only hope that Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning would turn pro. He did not, so the Jets traded the pick. The next year, Manning wound up going to Indianapolis, which won a Super Bowl and built a new stadium that ensured the team would not leave the city. The Jets still haven't gotten back to the Super Bowl.

HOWEVER, Keyshawn was drafted in 96 and the 97 draft is where Orlando Pace was drafted #1. Manning went #1 in 1998.

No, he's right.

1996 standings

The Jets traded away the 1 pick to the Rams in '97.

    • Looking like it might be game 7 for Pitt and Phi. Philly is spent. I like more rest for the canes
    • Moton is the man through and through. 2 things I'll always give Gettleman credit for, 1 is drafting Moton, the other is building a SB contending roster and blowing it up in one off-season
    • Kurb is still alive and well.  I’m still friends with him on all of the social media.  He truly is a great man!  That’s my bro!  He always looked out for me since the early days of the huddle.  It definitely makes me sad that he just quit posting here, but that’s life.  He still shares his takes on social media and X, but a lot of the huddle vets just grew tired of this format and the environment, I guess?  It’s a lot of guys that were valuable contributors here that just stopped posting but are still alive and passionate Panthers fans.  Blindsite used to post huge write-ups and was a well-respected poster and then just disappeared.  We had one of these type threads several years ago and he checked back in and explained he just lost the motivation to stay active here.  It was amazing hearing from him again…   I signed up in 04 after coming over from the Charlotte.com boards and been here ever since.  (For those that don’t know - this is Proudiddy - had to change the name very recently due to ‘ol tootsie roll penis and the bad press 😂).  I’m forever thankful for all of you, even those who I haven’t had the greatest history with, I still appreciate yall.  Many have come and gone, both figuratively and literally, and that has put a lot into perspective over the years.  I went from a young, newly married, wide-eyed twenty year-old guy with a baby on the way, to a now forty-two year-old guy, recently divorced and newly re-married guy with my oldest baby now an adult and 5 more kids since.  And what ride it has been!  You guys have been a much bigger part of my life than I really care to acknowledge.😂
