Anyone else feeling hopeless right now?

I'm here in the Bay Area and the local sports talk radio is lit up with all the excitement over hiring Harbaugh. They're talking playoffs next year, next Bill Walsh blah blah. Sure it's kind of crazy but they have one thing that we don't - hope (at least for me).

We're the NY Jets when Manning went back to school. Indy went on win a SB and Jets were bad for years...

We've got no head coach and one of the worst QBs in Pickles I've ever seen. There isn't one person in the industry that gives Pickles a chance and I agree.

On top of that we have the leagues toughest schedule in a division where everyone has their franchise QB. We'll be at the bottom for years.

Luck was the one ray of hope - a franchise QB that puts us above everyone else in the NFC South and like that - gone. We'll never know if he was our saviour but at least he would have giving us the same excitement SF has right now.

Only hope is either a. lockout or b. we're so bad next year we get Luck anyways. Why would a potential HC come here anyway knowing we'll most likely lose all of our games?

Oh well. For the first time in years I will not be getting NFL package to watch my beloved Panthers here in Bay Area. Why would I?

okay a. luck would in no way put us at the top of the nfc south right away b. wtf is harbaugh supposed to do, who's his qb ? what is he gonna do in his first nfl hc job with a team thats been terrible for a decade, there will be excitement here too when we hire a coach so turn off the news, step away from the ledge, and worry about earthquakes not this bullshit

We'll get a new HC along with an entire new coaching staff.

Pickles will get better or we'll bring in a true franchise QB in '12.

We have probably the most cap space out of anyone and should be a major player in FA.

We should get a total stud #1 overall.

I'm pretty excited to see how everything plays out TBH.

    • Neither Barkley nor even a healthy CMC would move the needle much for us. Those are guys that impact teams that already have impressive overall offenses and defenses, so they can perform the complimentary roles that make them actually valuable. We should know that specifically because CMC almost never moved the needle on bad Panthers team after bad Panthers team. Ask Giants fans about that with Saquon.
    • I would generally disagree. You see a lot more load management than previously but that is because being healthy in the playoffs is such a key factor. Different philosophies in that regard than previous generations.  Baseball really doesn't matter until at least halfway through the season. I am not gonna say they don't play hard but the physical demands are infinitesimal in the MLB in comparison to basically any other major pro sport.  People dislike all the shooting these days but that's a direct correlation with how much the overall skill level of the average NBA player has drastically risen over the past 15ish years. There are other aggravating factors, certainly, but that is the biggest one in terms of playing style differences. So many of the guys from the 80's and 90's wouldn't even be able to play in the modern NBA at all. The biggest problem the NBA has with the American market(they are the only US sport that has any real international appeal or interest, minus the NHL) is that they are so steadily corrupt and fix the systems against the small market teams. Well, you eventually lose a big chunk of the league viewership/potential viewership in the process. Take the very obviously fixed NBA draft lotteries. Superstar and upper tier star players rarely want to play for small market teams, nor can they usually afford to pay them. So how do you expect them to possibly compete in that environment?
