I'm not totally down on Newton.

He drips with potential.

I'm just not sold on him either.

My biggest thing is, and most will call me crazy, but I wanna give this team a chance this year.

It's like I've been saying, sign a Champ Bailey, pick up another fat, impact DT, and throw the absolute best you can get at QB, and I truly truly believe this team has a shot to do some serious damage next year.

If you invest yourself in a project like Newton, your committed to him for a handful of years-and what if he doesn't pan out?

However-if you can get a quality QB to lead this team for a couple years, and load him with talent (this is why I'm on the AJ Train) to make him look better than he is, we can see what QB's come out in the rookie class or Free Agency in the years to come, and we can be set starting this season and on into the future.

That's just my opinion, and it revolves around the idea that we've got talent on this team already, it's just young talent. And with the right coaching staff, I think it could work now.

I rather build for the future then throw all of our money into a single season. I'm totally for taking a legit vet QB though.

I am 100% for spending like crazy in FA to rebuild this team and get a FA QB. If we're doing that, then to hell with Cam, take the BPA at #1, or trade down. My thinking is that we're not going to do much in FA, and in that instance we'll need Cam more than the other picks.

Your forgetting something.

We've already built for the future.

This is about making us formidable now while the future develops on the bench.

I do think that the best way to improve the team for next year alone is to draft a DT and pick up a vet QB. However, if we have the opportunity to build the team up for years to come - and Newton perhaps could be a QB that could do that, though I am not sold yet - then we should take that chance on him.

IF the CBA is signed, we'll be active in FA.

With all the cap space we have, we're almost obligated to.

If the CBA isn't signed however....well, it's gloomy here in Pantherland..

I think it should be pointed out that Michael Crabtree was also getting Randy Moss comparisons but Hakeem Nicks, who was drafted much later in the first round, is up to this point a better player. Not saying that's how it will work out with Green and Blackmon, but we should probably look at draft boards on the internet as just that....the musings of people on the internet that don't actually work for NFL teams, and not hold them up as some sort of concrete evidence to back up our opinions of wether a player is worth drafting in the top five or not. It doesn't really matter what these guys think--if a team prefers one player over another, they will draft that player. From what I've seen both Green and Blackmon are for real. No one cares about 40 times.

AJ Green should be the pick. Smith needs to move on. It is sad but true we should trade him for what we can get. Bring in Alex Smith from San Fran and give him Gettis, Lefell, AE and GREEN we will quickly have a legit NFL offense.

I'm against trading Smith unless we are offered something we just can't pass up. We would then be in the same position we are now: no clear cut #2 WR, and possibly worse with no clear cut #1(Green is still a rookie).

With both Green and Smith you have a clear cut #1 and #2 with the other two rookies waiting in the wings not too far behind at #3 and #4. And if one gets hurt, which now is a very strong possibility with Smith, it's easy to move LaFell or Gettis back into #2 position.

Nothing wrong with having a little bit of depth at WR this year. I say draft Green and keep all 4 of those guys, while keeping Guy, Edwards and maybe even Charlie Martin somehow on the roster. That way you can actually say, we have taken care of our receiving corps for the next 2-3 years and we can move on and concentrate on other areas.

But having a vet like Smith at the receiving position is pretty valuable, if for no other reason, the fact he can raise the level in training camp and show the rooks how to run routes and going after the ball. Smith is one of the best route runners and has knack for coming down with the ball.
