Have you done this? If so what have you cooked?

I've wondered about this since sous vide machines are so damn expensive I could never justify a purchase of one.

1 pork chop for myself since it was an experiment, it works out really well. It's all about that ideal temperature which for most things hovers around 130ish. But you gotta be really careful to keep it there and hover over it.

I did it on a stove top though and not a slow cooker. But you can do both.

I just used a really accurate thermometer and the nicest ziploc bags I could find. This way is inconvenient because you need to monitor it pretty closely but after a while you can find a nice setting for the stove and leave it. I moved the bag around just to make sure there wern't any hotspots.

The super awesome handy way with the slow cooker involves some tinkering with a thermostatic controller which is basically what your oven uses to regulate the power/gas to keep a proper temperature.

You can wire a thermostatic controller to an extension cord so you don't ruin the cord for the slow cooker.

Then plug the slow cooker into the controller and there yah go. It's the cheapest way to get an accurate and convenient sous vide machine. I haven't tried it yet because I don't know if I need sous vide this badly in my life just yet.

I also talked to a chef who used an aerator from a fish tank to keep the water moving just another piece of info.

Sorry, Grits. Have mine on right now with a big roast in it. Gonna make steak sandwiches for dinner.

I did this the other day. It was great. Put beer, minced garlic, dry onion soup, beef broth, oregeno, and pepper in it. Shredded the meat, rolled them up in a wrap with provolone cheese....very tasty.

Crock pots and grills are the best.
