The Pro Clausen Thread....

Moore '09 had time and passed the ball well. Moore '10 had a swiss cheese OL (mostly same guys I know) and looked like a chihuahua on a bad hit of acid. Clausen was supposed to look better? How did Moore get his bum shoulder? Oh yeah, from a sack similar to a jail break scene.

Doesn't address his shoulder injury, which is a major reason he may not come back. Clausen would never have started as many games as he did if not for the injury. In addition, as you said, Moore didn't exactly look good in his starts, so it is possible they decide they have seen the best of him and don't like what he offers, long-term, whereas Clausen still could turn it in around, as unlikely as that is. IMO, Moore has the tools to do well, and should get a chance to compete if his shoulder is fixed, I'm just not sure it will be here. It's clear they'll be bringing in competition for Clausen, so it's not as if they are putting stock in him as their only option either.

Bradford was the #1 pick and had an offense designed for him, which really is the most important part of it. Bradford would have looked miles worse in this offense through most of the year, too. But the numbers aren't my concern with Clausen and never were. It's his mechanics and his leadership abilities, which I thought weren't going to be an issue and clearly have been.

don't need to address the shoulder injury as that is irrelevant. Moore was being brought up to show what an undrafted rookie did late in a season.

At the end of the season when he was in a decent scenario to show something he didn't. He didn't look better than other rookies in 2010 or rookies from prior seasons (which is the only reason Moore's name is bring brought up).

all this stuff about how Clausen was doomed is bogus. Clausen had plenty of chances and a team around him to show off glimpses of his talent.

lol, like anyone else did any better...

most people acknowledge Moore was bad but played better than Clausen. Moore looked better w/ zero ground attack aiding him. Clausen near the end had one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL aiding him.

BSP rolling out of his kids nursery and making his first NFL start on 4 days of practice looked better.

Clausen was so bad he made those two horrible QBs look like better options. Clausen won't start next year. A QB like Matt Moore looks much better than him (he did in camp, practice, and games). If a bad QB looks better than Clausen......Rivera will have no trouble finding a better option to beat Clausen in camp. The bad news, is beating Clausen doesn't mean crap b/c he is that bad.

Lots of players showed stuff this year. Goodson showed flashes, Gettis had a multi-TD game (amazing how a receiver can but our QB can't), LaFell had a good game, SS had good numbers before Jimmy, Stewart went beast mode for a while.

Basically everyone on offense showed a lot of good stuff except for one person.

You can't teach a guy how to be a QB and a leader. You either are or you aren't.

I disagree and over the last 10 years I have really tried to be pay attention to this. It's about odds and character. We dont know what his path is so how can we even begin to determine what type of character he will have.

oh and btw leaders arnt born, theyre made.

    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
