Can Rivera and Steve Smith Coexist?

I've been thinking, I dont see how the two of them could coexist. Rivera seems to be a very no nonsense, in your face, I'm in charge type of coach. Smith however, is a diva/whiner at times and normally gets what he wants from the organization. Now if JR wants the team to buy into Riveras philosphy, I dont see how Smith can remain on the team. Hes not a keep ur mouth shut and do ur job type of player.

They both want to win. Smitty and Rivera will do fine

:iagree:

Both are competitors and Smitty always plays to win. Myself, I am excited to see the Smitty off of a leash and let him do what he does best. I just hope the skipper can get the right tools in place to help him.

How much time have you spent talking to either of them? How can you form an opinion like this without knowing either of them?

Did you notice the "?" at the end of the title?

I'm not forming an opinion, I'm asking a question. Steve Smith has gotten special treatment from the organization because he is the star of the team which I believe is part of the problem as it appears he and the organization put him above the team as a whole. If Rivera wants to win as a team as he says, all players should be treated the same. Play or get out.

you get him a QB that can get the ball to him more than a couple times a game and he'll be happy.

Thats exactly the point, why make Steve Smith happy. If you are the other players on the team, do you want the team to be focused on winning or making one player happy.

you want to keep steve smith happy because he is a threat when he is a legit target.

that said, i have been thinking all along that i can see us trading him away this offseason, but the only way i would feel good about it was if we ended up with a younger vet WR with a lot of talent. not a plyaer for player trade, but a trade that send smith out for a 3r or 4th rounder and then that pick along with a later round pick used to bring in a better and younger vet WR.

I would have come to a different conclusion. Smith is very focused and intense as well and I would think that he would appreciate a straight talker who meant business.

I would think that coaches have to be adept at knowing how to reach certain players on an individual basis. IOW, a one size fit all approach does not work.

I don't have a clue how Rivera does this, however, I know that he has been successful as LC and a DC so I would guess that he knows how to motivate players. I'm trying to hone up on as much info as I can on him.

TBQH though, I'm not worried about how Smith and him will get along.
