Wes Welker subtly mocks Rex Ryan foot fetish

I found this pretty humours. In Welker's press conference today he continued to mock Rex Ryan in a subtle way but some people picked it up.

On Tom Brady's experience: "Having Tom in there – it goes without saying, the guy is who he is and he does a great job of making sure everyone is on the same page and putting their best foot forward going out there and playing well and doing what they can out there."

On teaching young players about the playoffs: "It's a playoff atmosphere and you can't just stick your toe in the water..."

On last year's playoffs, one week after he tore an ACL and MCL: "I had my foot up in the air trying to get the swelling to go down and things like that."

On being healthy for this year's playoffs: "This is what you spend all year getting ready for and you want to go out there and put your best foot forward."

On Jets Pro Bowl CB Darrelle Revis: "He's got great feet, he moves around well and [he] does some good things out there."

On how the team has grown since its last loss in November: "I think we have had some younger players really step-up this year."

On Revis (again): "I think he is very patient. He has good feet. He moves around really well."

On fellow Patriots WR Deion Branch: "He is another guy with great feet and he can really move around and do some great things out there."

On maintaining momentum after the Patriots' bye last week: "... you never know when you will get the chance to run it again before the game, so you want to make sure that you are putting your best foot forward out there and making it happen."

On having a playoff atmosphere in practice this week: "Yeah, absolutely. (We're) really moving forward and we're going out there being good little foot soldiers."

On combating the Jets' blitz packages: "(They) move people around and do a lot of blitzes. A lot of teams you don't see all year, so you definitely have to be on your toes and make sure that you're ready to go."

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
