Could be a DB coach option too (Meeks likely has it, but it isn't official yet). DC would seem more likely though.

McDermott and Rivera were on the Eagles staff together for five years.

he's still only like 36

as a position coach he's frigging gold (his units excelled both as a LBs and secondary coach), and he fits into the new aggressive mentality we want

he's basically an asset

with the CBA issues alot of guys have been getting second chances....he must have really fuged up or his play call was pretty suspect

I wonder if he'd be willing to to take a step back as a DC since Rivera already said he's going to be pretty much running the Defense. In any event I think Rivera might bring him in and give a little more control because of his pedigree.

Rivera is going to control the Defense. Him and McDermott worked together for 5 years. Rivera was the best 4-3 DC in the league. McDermott was considered one of the best recently. McDermott would be the perfect DC/Assistant DC for us.

Everybody on the Eagle forum seem to be estatic about it. Havent seen the eagles play alot, but Im not so sure it would be a good hire atleast for DC.

for whatever reason he didn't work out in philly, i could see him as a dc/lb coach. riveria has stated he plans to oversee the d so having guys like mcdermott & meeks to help him with gamplans will take some of the load off of him

Florio has some speculation on the "why".

Cleveland had come knocking, asking about DB Coach Dick Jauron (who's been a DC and a head coach before). Jauron may have wanted to advance, so rather than risk either losing him or ticking him off, they may have just moved McDermott out of the way.
