Bears sign Brett Basanez?

I know he was on the panthers roster but who the f*ck is Brett Basanez? Apparently our QB problem is solved, the Bears just inked this clown.:smilielol5:

You're not from Chi are you? Baz has come home he's a Northwestern product. He's better than any QB they've had including Rex. We'll miss him. He learned a lot from backing up Jake and he has a much stronger arm.

As an NU alum I'm very familiar with him.

As a Chicagoland resident and Bear fan I'm familiar with the QB situation.

My take: The Bears like collecting backup and 3rd string QB's, but haven't had a bonafide starter since McMahon.

Big up NU! I'm a Evanston native. Have a couple of Alums in the family. That's why I'll root for the guy. He's got more heart than Orton or Gross, mobility, and a good arm. He may be the diamond in the rough they've been looking for. He comes cheap too.

He can't possibly be worse than you already have. I'd say it was more of a lateral than an upgrade though.

Orton actually did fairly well this season, he started out pretty hot then injured the ankle and since then slowly declined towards the end of the season. Record wise he finished fairly strong though (3-1). I'm still not ready to rule out Orton as a good starting QB, he needs another 1/2 to a full season before i'm ready to call him a bust. I started this thread because like EPI said Chicago as a history of picking up other peoples back-ups and trash and never end up with anything legit. I'm not from Chicago nor an Alum of Northwestern so I don't know much about the guy but I figured if he was any good some team would've had him as their starter by now as he's been in the league for 3 years. I do appreciate the insight from you guys that know about him, thanks.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
