For those wanting a new QB

Jake had the worst game of his career. At least it's done and over with!

Seriously though, we have talent on the roster at the QB position, that have advantages over anyone else we bring in.

Besides, the Panthers FO isn't looking for a QB to carry the team.

There aint much talent. Delhomme is old and has always been bottom of the barrel as far as football talent goes. McCown is average at best. Moore is awful and wont even be in the NFL in 2-3 years. Basanez will be one of the Bears first cuts in training camp.

I see we just give up now and beat the rush...

Not giving up, Moore was meh in college against weak PAC-10 defenses. He was mediocre when he played at the end of the regular season. He was awful this preseason. He isnt an NFL caliber player.

I just thought that since you found our other two options as bad or worse...

As much as I hate to admit it, Gantt is probably right. However, with Baz gone, we do have a spot for QB, so we will be getting a new QB. I am just not going to get excited until I see who they try and bring in, whether it's a draft pick or a FA. We will just have to wait and see how this all plays out.

We all know Jake is shaky. And we all know Jake is our QB. We also know we aren't getting a new QB until Jake retires, suffers a career ending injury, or dies. Until then; We are who we are as it comes to QBs.

funny. 31 other teams would be weighing their options right now, first rounder or no first rounder.

That's a big stretch. I seriously doubt the Colts, Chargers, Bengals, Steeler, Saints, Falcons, and a boatload of other teams are wighing their options right now. Honestly, I'd be surprised if any team with an established starter is doing such a thing.

Teams are weighing options only where they feel they have needs. Like it or not, the Panthers don't see QB as a need. Fan opinion doesn't matter.

Gant thinking Basanez could've been competition for a starting job is just dumb. Thinking Delhomme might get a contract extension is even dumber beyond belief.

Delhomme's cap figure being what it is this year, there are only two logical options:

A) restructure, which means extending his contract

B) release him

Which one do you seriously think the Panthers are contemplating?

C) wait to see how he does this year

If he plays like this past season, he won't get extended. Which I'm pretty sure will happen.

That means an 11 million dollar cap figure for Delhomme, on a cap strapped team that has needs at more than one other spot and might have to make room for a 17 million dollar franchise tag.

"C" is wishful thinking on your part, and extremely unlikely to happen.

Thinking he's going to change is wishful thinking on yours. He'll still be the same turnover machine like he always has been.

Doesn't matter what you think. Doesn't matter what I think. Doesn't matter what anybody on this board or any other fan thinks. This isn't going to a vote.

Only the team's opinion matters, and every beat writer that covers the team would tell you that the team's opinion of how Delhomme performed this season is markedly different from yours.

Outside of your own opinion, do you have any item from the team coverage to supports the notion that he'll just "play out this year" with an 11 million dollar cap hit?

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
