So does hiring of Fred Graves have a ripple effect on draft day?

Not that im against Green or anything but it won't make sense to pick him if we don't have someone to give him the ball.. and unless he stays at the l.o.s or in position for a dump pass then i don't see many passes headed his way.

Now i think fairley or peterson would make much more sense and personally i'd love to see us get peterson, gamble isn't getting any younger and imagine how sick our cb's would be with gamble, peterson and munnerlyn.

If I were placing a bet right now, I'd bet on Nick Fairley.

If I were in charge of the decision, I'd be making every effort to trade down.

A controlled workout, in a dome, in underwear shouldn't propel anyone to the top IMO. Game film should be the biggest tool, I believe it is with the Panthers and they won't reach for a QB at 1.

DT is our second biggest need and there's a highly rated guy there for the taking.

Clausen is Hurney's boy, no way he gives up on him after one season.

QB simply doesn't make sense.

what's funny is that when luck was a possibility people were saying he would be a wasted pick because "who would he throw the ball to?"

silly to not choose someone because you don't have the ideal talent around him. get the most talented players you can and build around them.

agreed, although i think you quoted the wrong person.

combine is done in the most ideal of situations. not saying it's pressure free because there is a lot riding on it, i just don't put nearly as much stock in it as others do, esp. with QB. there are some players who might be able to help themsleves with the combine or a pro day, but for the most part none of them have any real game pressure.

Choosing AJ Green when we have three competent receivers on the team over Nick Fairley when we have zero competent DT's on the team makes no sense unless we sign two starting quality DT's before the draft (unlikely).

Touché

I really don't care who we get, id be excited with green, fairley or peterson..

I would calm down, on the "Fairley is definitely the guy" and "No way we take a QB#1".

Last January, most of yall's fav draft expert, Mayock, did not think that Bradford would go #1 overall, and said that Suh and McCoy were "by far" the best players in the draft.

Things change a lot between January and the draft.

There is also talk about the Rams looking for a quarterback with their first-overall selection. When asked about the possibility of a quarterback climbing to the top pick, Mayock said the move was unlikely.

“I think it’s a big reach,” Mayock said. “The logical guy is (Oklahoma’s Sam) Bradford. I’m not a big (Jimmy) Clausen fan. No way in the world in my mind -that’s today, I’ve still got a lot more work to do on Bradford. Those two players (Suh and McCoy) just dwarf the quarterback issue.

Unlikely that we are going to go with Green. Fairley seems the consensus pick, but Green is probably at #5 on our list. We know that there's no way Fox takes a receiver at #2, Bowers seems a no brainer there. The Bills have been all over Peterson's jock and seems to fit at #3. That means the Bengals will have a position of need fall right into their lap, and they can dump the TOcho show.

The advantage with selecting Green is that he makes the WR core overpowering and makes us the most talented WR core in the league. His presence will help open things and make it easier on our QB's. And the more help Clausen or Moore get's the better.

My concern with Fairley is not that he isn't good. It's just... is he a top 1-3 talent? We could draft Phil Taylor in the later rounds and sign Brandon Mebane, and boom our DT's are fixed. We could do that and then draft Peterson and make our defense ridiculously nasty.
