Kiper takes Locker and Mallet off his big board (top 25)

Some of you crack me up. You're making such a big deal about Cam's workout being "media only" and it makes no sense. Do you know who has media creditentials? That's right, Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, and Mike Mayock, along with a butt load of people from these internet draft sites that we are always looking at for information. Do you know what they're gonna do after this workout? That's right...they're gonna talk about it a LOT and they're gonna show footage of said workout over and over on ESPN and the NFL Network.

Do you think that might get Cam Newton's name in the front of a few NFL scouts minds? I sure as hell do. Obviously, Cam and his inner circle are much smarter than some Panther fans.

the point is still that the media isn't running the workout... so even if there are scouts there they are simply observing and they may not get to see him do things they want to see.

as Mr. Scot says I don't think this will do much harm as long as he also takes part in other workouts where the scouts do run things a bit. If, instead, this is his replacement as some have speculated (incorrectly I think), then that would be a potential disaster.

if he's just doing this to get more film of him out there, which will be augmented by actual workouts for scouts and at the Combine/pro days, that's cool.

I don't see him being a Panther, though. Also, Rivera said they were putting emphasis on game film, not workouts.

That was my point TRD, he is still likely going to participate at the pro day for the scouts. I doubt this will be his only workout it is just to try and get some momentum because they press will be talking about him the day after his workout but at the combine he will be competing with hundreds of people for attention and at pro day he will be competing with Fairley.

this is his way of trying to have the spotlight on him and him alone for a couple of news cycles

Do you know that those guys don't actually work for NFL teams and don't actually have an opinion when it comes to drafting a player?

Sure, it's a good idea for ESPN, and for his covrage on ESPN. To that end, it may even be a good idea to generate some fan-made hype for him. How much will that matter, though?

Does it matter if Kiper has him #5 on his Big Board?

We could ask Clausen how much that matters, I guess.

So far only negative things have been said about it. Not one pro scout, GM, or executive has said this is smart or a good idea. His future is in their hands, not Kiper, McShay, Stuart Scott, anyone.

Exactly how many pro scouts and GM's have you talked to lately? There was one article that quoted a couple of anonymous scouts who said they didn't like it much, but as far as we know, there could be 30 other scouts and GM's that have no problem with it.

so your argument is that "there are a ton of GMs and scouts out there that like it, they just aren't talking so nobody can quote them" and/or "they are being ignored"? We have evidence they dont' like it. We have no evidence they do like it. At best, the majority of them don't care either way. At worst, they hate it. I find it unlikely most of them like it and are just being quiet.

come on, the way the media works, if even one of them was all "WOO YEAH I WANNA SEE THIS STUFF" you know ESPN would have a one hour special on all the scouts that are so excited over this amazing workout that is upcoming :P

What I'm saying is that there is no reason to believe that most NFL scouts or GM's have a problem with it. They're gonna see him again at the combine and pro day anyway, so why would this make them mad, as people are suggesting?

And you can bet your bottom dollar that the Panthers scouts will be able to get a private workout with Cam, if they so choose, so the only way this will effect us at all, is if this workout makes them curious enough to want a closer look.

I think you are misusing the term "as far as we know" because as far as we know not 1 scout or GM likes it. As far as we know every scout and GM interviewed hated it and thinks its just a publicity stunt.

You have the Cam blinders on which is fine but don't through out these crazy situations to try and defend him. Anyone that has come out has said it's basically wrong. That's "As far as we know."

I don't remember the last time I've talked to a GM or scout but I know when the next time will be ;) It's coming up pretty quick

How many NFL teams think highly enough of those guys to pay for their services?

Edit: Real Deal beat me to it.

    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
    • Sure.    ignore that he said this roster wasn’t good in 2023 to 2024 but keep up the effort
    • While I don't believe its a must win, (we have been better on the road this post season) it is definitely A NEED TO WIN the longer this series goes the more pronounced the Canes advantage on rest and health will be! If we hold serve at home in games 1 and 2 guaranteeing a 6 game minimum series for them if we lose the road games..... by the game 4 and 5 I expect them to be beat they have played A LOT OF HOCKEY the last three years, they have MINIMAL rest off a more physical than one might have expected series vs the leafs.... you know Tampa took their pound of flesh in round 1 from them. Combine all that with the fact that even though this year's canes squad isn't as talented as last years this IS a better squad than the one they swept last time that had McKenzie Mckeathern on line 1 Turbo with a broken hand a banged uo and eventually concussed Slavin (and even though it was a sweep 6 OTS and 4 1 goal losses is hardly dominant)  This year Bob hasn't been superman (hes probably gonna still have a great save percentage agiast us just a side effect of our style) Thatchuk is maybe 50% (3 game winners agiast us) their defense no longer has Gudas and several other downgrades.  While the Canes have a healthy and performing Svechnikov along with other big guys to counteract florida like Carrier, Jankowski, Robinson.   I by know means think it will happen but I either see this as a low scoring dog fight or a series were the canes surprise and end up dominating.
