Advice on saving money with coupons

So money is tight right now, like a lot of people, and I've asked my wife (who handles grocery stopping) to start using coupons. I've heard stories of people saving a TON of money, by going into Harris Teeter, etc, but I really don't know where to start or how to also gain that success. I also heard you can use other store's coupons at Harris Teeter?

I figured there has to be some people on here that do this.....

Sign up for Harris Teeter's weekly ads and go when they have triple coupons (triple up to $.99 coupons) or super double (double up to $1.98 coupons). They always have double coupons (up to $.99). When they have those specials, you can only use 20 coupons per day. Some people go around buying up all the Sunday papers they can to get the coupons. However, you can go to the manufacturer's websites (smartsource.com, redplum.com, and pgeverydaysolutions.com) and print them off for free.

I haven't done this in a long time (I need to), but you can save some major cash if you know you are doing. Like only paying $15 for $150+ worth of stuff. You may want to tell her to get a binder that has baseball card pages to keep up with the coupons...makes it easier.

one trick I use is to use a coupon to buy something that is on sale. If you do that, you can save money big time. Like Tar said, Bi-Lo and the Teeter always double coupons up to 99 cents.

On super double and triples, you can save some serious money. On a super triple day I got 40 bucks worth of groceries for 15 bucks.

Thanks for the tips (and link). When you say "per day", you mean per store? I actually have 2 Harris Teeters within 5 minutes of my home, as well as a very nice super Bi-Lo.

I think it's per day, no matter which store. It's tied into your VIC card. Since I haven't done this in over a year, I don't exactly know. Back then, they weren't as strict with it.

a note about HT: they will rape you on things that aren't on special, even with coupons.

a note on coupons: try writing customer feedback online to the companies that make your favorite products. Out of gratitude, many will mail you awesome coupons. We've gotten free thomas' english muffins, several dollars off Proctor and Gamble products, etc.

Yeah, everyone should already know that if you are shopping at the Teet, you are being raped with prices.

They do have the best selection of fresh produce and meats. Everything else I buy at Wal Mart

It's the most staggering when it comes to spices...

I've seen a spice (don't remember which)

... at harris teeter you could get a small jar for 8 dollars

... at food lion you could get a larger jar for 5 dollars

... at fresh market or home economist you could get an even larger bag for about 60 or 70 cents.

A lot of it is knowing where to go...

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
