Does Newton know how to

lose?

Cam only playing one year and winning it all means no one knows how he will react when he loses. It is eventually going to happen. Will he become even more focused? Who the hell knows? That is my biggest fear about him.

Cox on Walterfootball released their scouting report on him today and in reading it that is what pops out. Is he mature enough to handle it appropriately, and will he be able to learn that maturity appropriately seeing as he has no vet to sit behind as of now?

Strengths:

# Elite mobility for his size

# Strong arm

# Relatively accurate

# Hard to bring down

# Leadership

Weaknesses:

# Maturity and character concerns

# Only one season of major college experience

# Relies too much on athleticism over fundamentals

# Poor throwing mechanics

# Hardly any experience under center

# Mostly makes only one or two reads

I question the leadership because of him being on a winning team, I mean is that how you judge leadership by sticking someone on a winning team? I think the best time to judge leadership is under a sinking ship, like Delhomme for instance. Auburn has a lot of other talent and I feel someone was someone else's crutch. I am not sure who, no one can be as of now but I think it will really show through in the NFL.

Yea I know another Newton thread but I am bored and trying to find a way to like this guy more so I won't have a heart attack if we do draft him. I also really want a franchise QB.

I don't know. He has been with three different national championship teams, so maybe he doesn't know how to lose but he certainly knows how to win.

So going from a D-1 school back to a lower ranked school, and working his way back to a D-1 school where he wins it all and learns 3 different systems in 3 years doesn't show leadership. The fact that he admitted his mistakes and has worked very hard to redeem himself and been a model citizen the past 2 years doesn't show character and maturity??

He did what most folks wouldn't have done, start over to rebuild his career and image. Everything he has said or done in the past 2 years shows he is a humble grateful player who respects the chance he was given to redeem himself.

There is alot of things he needs to work on but maturity and leadership aren't two of them IMO.

I can see this draft haunting us for years to come...What if we don't draft him and he goes to the bills or vikings and drive them through the playoffs for years to come...Players development depends on the system and there physical attributes...This guy is raw talent...with the right coaching staff behind this guy he could be very dangerous to the opposing teams...but time will only tell...and that goes for Standford's Andre Luck...Only time will tell for all these players....Its time for the Huddle to break and sit on the sidelines and watch this one play out or at least until the private workouts and combine results to come in....Personally,I would have a lot more respect for the front office if they did Draft him because it would show that the franchise is willing to take a risk...Just to win...something this franchise hasn't done ever..We never was involved and any big trade unless we were giving up a player. Never did anything in FA but get old or players that can't suit up...The old way never worked and so why not...Pickles was pro ready...syke...He was always a loser...and its no way in hell we will win with him as a starter in a panthers uniform...

    • I think Canales goes before Young in that scenario.
    • But that's the point, if the locker room feels that way, then you're going to upset them by still keeping Bryce around and playing him over the Top 10 pick, as opposed to bringing in a vet to start until the rookie is ready. Again, it goes one of 3 ways... 1. Bryce plays well enough to earn an extension 2. Bryce still sucks and we draft his replacement who starts Week 1 with a new QB as his backup 3. Bryce still sucks, we draft his replacement in the 1st, but they start the season backing up a new vet QB who was brought in to be his mentor. With an OUTSIDE chance at a 4th option where Bryce plays well enough to convince the team to let him play out the 5th year option and then make a decision.  Which I can't see it happening, but there is still a non zero chance of that happening I guess. The only way we draft a QB next year and still have Bryce on the roster, is if we're taking someone in the middle rounds hoping to develop them as a long term backup to Bryce.
    • I hear you. But I am not absolving Legette just because he is from my neck of the woods or anything else.  Tge comment was more about the fans uneven application of blame.  I do agree that there is a noticeable disconnect between him and the QB and that he might do better with a more polished and capable delivery man.  Abd don’t feel that they used XL right, or at least how I expected it to look.  And that could be a function of a reticent WB that shies away from that style of attack. I mean it was either him or Canales that pretty much eliminated downfield from the playbook - even while we see guys running free at times. It Could work if they commit to it.  Whoever isn’t committing.
