Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

I don't think Auburn run's a gimmick offense or a one read and run offense. Any NCAA QB need's to be able to do the basic's at the position. To think Cam can't simply based on the fact he was'nt required to sell's the kid short IMO. I can tell you the SEC is the toughest conf. in NCAA football, hand's down. And he burned most of those team's with his feet and arm. Just can't see a gimmick offense good enough to win a national title. Just google Gus Malzahn, you'll see.

You really don't think it was a one read and run?

Thanks for telling me the SEC is the toughest, I didn't know. Too bad they play cupcakes all year. If you want to challenge yourself you play a real schedule like the Pac10 played. 8 of the top 10 toughest schedules in the country came from the Pac10. If SEC didn't have to play the Little10 in all of it's bowl games they might get exposed.

It's not a gimmick offense in the sense that it's not all trick plays but it's not a traditional offense by any means and not an offense that works in the NFL.

I did'nt say it was a damn NFL offense did I? And I'am not here to defend the SEC or PAC10, and no I don't think it's a one read and run offense.

It's weird that you kept using gimmick though when no one is saying that, all they are saying is that it's possibly the furthest thing from an NFL offense.

I used the word gimmick.....but it was to describe the offense as a one read and then run spread offense. It is NOT an NFL style offense.

I am not even saying that Newton does not have the ability to make reads....or that he won't be able to. Merely that he was not required to at Auburn, and thus there is no basis to know whether he can or not. That within itself makes me leary of taking him #1.

However, if the coaching staff believes he is a franchise QB.....then I say go draft him #1.

Again my reservations about him are due to not being able to evaluate certain aspects of his game....not his inability to physically do anything.

I think we all have reservation's about who to get with that pick MadHatter, and I understand why you do. I'am not on here trying to plug the SEC, just trying to say the offense was more than Cam just playing backyard football. Yes TheRealDeal, we need straight fact's homie!

    • Jones was brought in to compete with AR but Steichen was allowed to be real and say AR isnt ready and may never be. It's not a bad thing to acknowledge the reality a lot of these high QB draft picks don't make it as NFL franchise QBs. It's not a knock on Bryce, Stroud or AR. It's just the NFL.  Ive been insistent we needed more than Dalton. Other than the Raiders game, he was horrible. Plummer. Why bother. It's like we put the minimal amount of effort to a position that's actually pretty damned significant. Hell, look at Nick Foles. Backup QB wins the damn SB. Also, how many times have we seen a backup come in and never relinquish the job. Brady was Bledsoe's backup, and an injury launched a career that led to 7 SB rings.  There were guys available that were better than Dalton. We could and should have done more for the betterment of the team. If we had brought in Howell instead of Dalton, and Bryce played like he has until now, then Howell went in and started lighting it up, we would be able to say with certainty that the problems are Bryce problems because this guy can do it but Bryce can't. Dalton has already shown us he's not really capable of a lot. Maybe he surprises us, but I don't have high hopes of HQ QB play.  I don't care who the QB is. Bryce, AR, Jameis, some off world clone of Cam we found in a time capsule next to JR'S pool. Just be real and honest in all QB evaluations and may the best QB win the job. Do what's best for the Panthers, not just any one player.
    • Next week it’s “they’re playing the way they have to play on offense with Andy Dalton at QB”
    • You need a good sense of humor to call that funny. But I was lamenting that the other day. We are winning some games with that approach. Took us two and a half years to get back to where we started from.
