Ron Rivera: "Steve Smith part of the plan right now"

Yea it does, but we can still get a 3rd for him, and its not fair to him to ask him to wait after we gutted the rest of the team. He doesn't have mental issues like moss does so he does have some value.

Screw this "being fair to him" crap. I want what is best for the Panthers....not what is best for one of the players.

The only way the offense if going to be effective this year is if we land a veteran QB or if the guys we already have step it up. There is no Andrew Luck or Matt Ryan to be had. It's gonna be Moore or Clausen again. We just have to hope that the new system will make a big difference.

Or, accept the fact that this team just went 2-14 and we are now in a rebuilding phase and that there will be growing pains involved.

I think we are set up to have a quick rebuilding phase as compared to say the Lions and Raiders but still there will be growing pains.

I think the goal for the 2011 Panthers will be to get to 8-8 and playoffs in 2012 and Super Bowl contender by 2013. Will Smith be okay with that? I think like many fans he wants the team to make moves know that "on paper" makes the Panthers a Super Bowl contender now. And that's not going to happen.

I hate to say it, but Smith needs to go. You know he wants to be on a playoff bound team and as much as anybody wants it to happen, Carolina isn't going to be knocking on the playoffs door too soon. He deserves to be on a team that can give him a chance at a ring.

As far as his trade value goes, I think he his worth a 3rd round pick (heck, maybe a 2nd rounder from a team that really wants a proven WR).

Fans think players have more value than they actually do. No team is giving up a 2nd or 3rd for Smith.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
