I think it's going to be either Fairley or Peterson. Peterson would be an absolute great addition and make a great trio of CB's. IF there is no CBA then we won't be able to sign the better DT's on the market and Rivera may want to go ahead and fill a huge position of need while we can. Fairley is a risk but he could also be our replacement for Jenkins.

I just don't understand why people think that we should draft a CB or WR with the 1st pick, or why a DT/DE is any safer than a QB. There is a long line of top 5 DT's that nobody even remembers anymore, because they were either complete busts and out of the league in 3-4 years, or were just decent and never made that big immediate impact that I keep reading about here. DT's and DE's almost never make a big impact as rookies in the first place. Suh is the exception, and not the rule.

For every spread offense QB you name that made it, I can name a dozen who didn't(Jerry Tagge, Rich Campbell, Todd Blackledge, Kelly Stouffer, Andre Ware, David Klingler, Heath Shuler, Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Cade McNown) these were all spread offense QB's that were drafted in the first round that failed. I didn't say they all failed, there is an exception to every rule.

Some of these guys like Kingler and Couch were in run and shoot and not really the spread.

In the last ten years the guys coming from true pro systems have routinely failed. The QB's that come from spread and hybrid offenses have had a higher success rate.

I believe part of that is because guys from non-traditional offenses have to do more to prove they are worthy of a first round grade.

The Pro guys are given A LOT of extra credit for playing in pro systems even if their gifts aren't as high as some others.

Both sides have busts but few Pro System first round QB's have panned out lately. Matt Ryan is the only one I found that was drafted in the first round, played a true pro style in college, and turned into a big time QB the last ten drafts.

Sanchez and Stafford could be two others but haven't quite made it to big time QB's yet.

Your epic busts have mostly come from pro offenses in college.
