Bottom line...unless they find something worse than buying a stolen laptop in Cam's background, then he will go in the top five. If the Panthers investigate him and end up being satisfied that the kid stuff is behind Cam, then he will go #1 to the Panthers.

He is an elite talent any way you slice it, and there is no reason to assume that he isn't capable of picking up an NFL offense.

Let's assume we pass on Newton this year and select a non-qb with the first pick. We then go on to win 3 or 4 games this year with a combination of Jimmy, Matt Moore, and a veteran qb. Unfortunately, someone else in the league only wins 2 games for the season, so they are the ones that get to select Andrew Luck in the draft.

If this happens, what do you suggest we do about quarterback position?

That's fine. You can have all the bandwagon fans you want. We got a ton of them this year when Clausen was drafted. I guess the chanting his name and so on only lasted a couple weeks. Then hype didn't matter and performance and wins and losses were the only thing that counted. I'd rather build my team with good players rather than players with hype and by the end, more jerseys will be sold with a consistently good team rather than a team led by hyped QB after hyped QB.

In a month or so we won't have to. These "fans" will be gone. Rooting for a team led by a safer less talented less athletic Qb. Jerry f'd up pandering his team and qbs to 'fans' not motivated by winning. Most of us want a quarterback. These dudes want a 'great hope ". Lol. There's a difference.

You might be right with less athletic, but less talented is a stretch. What if our fans become fans of the Colts, Patriots, or Packers? Are they now a fan for a team led by a less talented QB?

I have friends. Who have been Panther fans for years, that are leaving. It's not because they aren't 'real fans' it's because they don't like the way this organization is heading.

You think drafting Newton will keep them? What if he's not that good? Do they leave again? If he's great do they become super fans? If he's okay do they just watch on TV and buy a T shirt? Point is fans will come and go and you can't worry about it. If you put a good product on the field they will stay. If they feel Cam will make them a good product and not just a hyped product, they will do it. If they feel Peterson or Fairley or Bowers will make us a consistently better product, they will do it and fans will get over the fact we passed on their favorite player to never pay a down and they will appreciate winning again.

Pretty big assumption we'll only win 3-4 games. Vet QB should be good for 3-4 on their own.

However, to play the game, you look at Berkley who will prob declare, or whatever other non run option, character nightmare QB who's there.

You realize that most good players at one point had "hype" around them right??? So are there different degrees of "hype" that would make you feel more comfortable??

The more people like a kid the more we should stay away?? His workout was too good so stay away??

I think everyone is just worried that this kid is 6'6 250 pounds, has an strong and accurate arm, learned a complex offense in one year and mastered it, has been a part of three different national championship teams, has spent the last two years repenting for mistakes he made at UF by going to elementary schools to try to help troubled kids, and is universally liked by his teammates who have referred to him, among other things, as humble.

But he does have some parking tickets and he doesn't always have the best footwork (when he is throwing dimes into tight windows mind you) so buyer beware!!!

We should pass on this guy because there is a kid at the morally bankrupt University of Southern Cal with mentors like Lane Kiffin and who had more INT's in his last five games than Newton had his entire season might come out next year.

I don't care about anything off the field as much as I do on it.

He's a great athlete with a ton of hype about his potential. He doesn't have a lot of tape of him doing things that will transfer over to the NFL and help him become a better QB.

Players like AJ Green have a lot of tape of them doing things that will translate to the NFL, same with PP and so on.

If the FO feels it will be better for our team to draft a player that isn't as much of a project as Newton and can make our team better in the long run with less risk, I will be happy. If they feel Newton can make the transition and in the long run will be better than any other player coming out of this draft, then I'm happy.

Whatever player helps this team win more games will make me happier. Winning games is all that matters and that will bring fans.

We might win more than 3-4, but it's not a big assumption at all that if we don't improve the quarterback position this year that we will have at least a top 10 pick. And if we are picking in the 8-10 range, then we might not even have a chance to select Barkley either if he turns out to be as good as some say he will be.

I see their point, but I think that their view is skewed from what it normally would be because of Andrew Luck. Hypothetically, if Andrew Luck never existed, then I think people would have no problem with Cam Newton being the first overall pick.
